Sell me on the 09 F150

Well, it's been a long time but I come back looking for some help. It's been two years since I sold my beloved 04 f150 and now I'm looking into getting back in one. Just wondering if I can get some general opinions from you guys, pros and cons, etc. Trying to find a reasonably priced 4x4 crew cab, or even possibly an 08 model. Thanks for any help or advice.

I would wait on the new motors. the only downfall there probably will be next to no incentives when it comes out, similar to no incentives to get into a new 2011 superduty... I bet there will be some killer incentives for the 09-10 F150's coming up though, especially if your looking reasonably priced! Around here they have been knocking off 14,500 from the price of 2010 superduties, then again that dealer has nearly 40 still on the lot..

09-10 have it all over the 04-08, IMO. The 6 speed trannie makes a world of difference. Also to me the seats are more comfortable than what was on the 04, at least in comparing 04FX4 to 09 FX4. SYNC is nice, especially for someone like me who does not own an MP3 or iPod. Just plug in a USB stick with MP3 songs on it and play.

I'm guessing there should be some really good deals coming up on the 09/10's that are remaining. I wouldn't think twice about owning the current engine models and wouldn't even touch the new engines for at least a couple of years.

I can only think of two reasons why you but a 2008 over a 2009+. 1) The Crew cab is 6" longer for 2009, so it does not fit in your garage. 2) The 2009+ is just more money than you want to spend.

Other than your desire for a crew cab, what else do you want out of a truck?

'09+ for sure.

Sounds like money is a factor, so I'd suggest an '09 or '10. I certainly would not buy an '08 with all the upgrading they did for the 2009+ year. The deal would have to be stupendous for me to consider buying an '08 or older model.

I'd imagine you could find a pre-owned 2009 XLT 4x4 Screw for a decent price. Personally I don't think I could live with any model below at least an XLT, but that's just me (I'm pretty picky when it comes to my trucks). The differences between '09 & '10 were pretty minor, and since funds are a factor I'm sure the '09 would be cheaper since it's a year older. It's a sweet vehicle and it sounds like it'll look current until 2014 or so when the remodel happens according to the latest rumors.

PS I think the new engines will be fantastic, and I'd buy the EcoBoost in a heartbeat - even the first one off the line - no worries here. But since you want a reasonable price I would grab an '09. It will look just the same as the ones with the new engines, and it'll be a lot less expensive. Another plus is that the F-150's are holding their value really well in case you change your mind a bit down the road. I think '10 Taurus trade values are up like 36% or something compared to the older model. Pretty sweet. Ford is really on it's game. Just last year I thought nothing could top that high-tech Taurus, and now the new Explorer blows it out of the water. That new Explorer with all it's tech makes my '09 Platinum feel old & outdated already. That dash is amazing, and MyFord Touch is crazy cool. Amazing how fast Ford is improving each of their new vehicle redesigns. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the 150 in a few years!

09 was the first year I hated the head rests. I would pick up a 2010 on 6-8k in rebates etc at years end. I am happy with the 5.4L. I think they are stressing the little 5.0L too hard to propel the truck. I believe there is no replacement for displacement. I don't agree with them going down to a 302ci for a truck engine. I'd like to stay in the 350-366 range. You'll notice peak torque is at 4,500 on the 5 liter. I don't rev that much in normal driving. The 5.4 makes peak torque 1k rpm sooner.

I agree but I wouldn't go 09. I would go 2010 n up. The brake upgrade alone is one reason I wouldn't get a 09.

Look at the video of the '09 F-15- v.s the Chevy, Toyota and Dodge over in the "General Discussion" section. If that doesn't sell you, nothing will.

Agree. I've never driven an 09, but I think the brakes are the same as the previous generation right? The only '10 I've driven was a Raptor and even with 35s the brakes are a night and day difference compared to the previous gen.

I had an 09 and just traded it in for a 10.

And yes, the brakes are noticeably better.

But, I wouldn't not get a good 09 just because of their brakes, which are fine.
