Duh, you must be stupid, check the manual, page 817... you're trying to change the Range... you need to select 'R' to change the Range of the transmission in conjunction with the 4WD selection **** to change the Range in the transfer case.
My truck does it just fine, yours should as well.

Get video when you try, so if it doesn't shift, we can see if you did it correctly or not.

You may also need to jerk the steering wheel violently each direction when doing this, as the center differential will want to bind up and preventing the shift from happening until you try to turn the front wheels, so just really crank on the steering wheel to be sure it fully selects.

When I first got mine I noticed the light came on inside every time I opened the door. My wife thought I was nuts when I left a six pack on the seat and kept cursing that it never got cold.

I would love to see the maneuver take place.

A while back being young and really dumb, I had a Ford Escape, and I used to shift it manually, like all the time. I'd go through automatic trannies like every 3rd oil change. They got so good at changing my transmission, they figured they should revise my service schedule and put at the end of 9 months or 9k miles, I would need a new transmission. It never really liked being floored in N and then being popped in D, but hey, it was really fun at the time...

But now that I've wisened up and learned that vehicles do cost money, I'd better take care of them, so I take good care of them now.

Ford must have changed this for 2010. In my '04 I was told it stood for Racing. I never understood why though. I've lost every single street race I've had, in fact, when I put it in "R" and floor the throttle, the guy in the other lane peels away at the speed of light.

I better have a look at the owners manual, I don't think I've been doing it right.:o

Well in the 97-03 R stands for run. For it to run you put it on R. D is detonate, I dont dare put it there.

it will jump into 4 wd High all the way up to 95 though.
I'm sorry, but you sir should not be driving at all if you think that you should be able to use 4 wheel low at 70 mph. By chance did you read your owners manual
