Break Pad Changes
Hello everyone
I just purchased a 2009 ford f-150 XLT 4x2 Super Cab the car had 14,559 miles and I would like to know what the mileage should be for changing break pads, I realize that this is based on usage as well but this is my first car that I have purchased I am trying to learn as much as possible I would like to know if there is round about figure.
I am not a car guy, but I would like to get a better knowledge base.
Thank You

You are going to get anywhere from 25k to 100k out of front brakes. The OEM pads lasted 65k on my 03, and the replacements (premium ceramics) have 60k on them, and have plenty of life left. I just had the brakes inspected yesterday as part of a tire change and alignment. Good thing I did take it in - it needed upper and lower ball joints and an idler arm too. Ford can kiss my @$$ with those damn uppers that are part of the control arm - the replacement control arms now have removable ball joints and everything new has grease fittings too.
Rear brakes have 125k on them and still have plenty left too.

...but the dust still sucks beyond belief.
I sure hope the "upgraded brakes" on the 2010MY don't create the kind of mess all the other brakes have caused on the F150 since the 1997MY. I've asked a few times, but no one who owns a '10 has ever responded on whether the brake dust issue is truly better or not.

Got to agree that my 06 must work overtime at making dust on my front rims. I am about to put the Wagner ThermoQuiets on them. Have used them on other vehicles I have owned and it not only cut way down on the dust, it also cured any brake "squeal" you might have (my 2000 Honda Odyssey for one).
