Question Gotta love those Dealers...

Well I took my truck into the dealer yesterday because I noticed that my brakes were squeaking on the right side. So I go to pick it up today and they tell me that all my rotors are hot spotted because of my bigger tires. Note: Since I have owned this truck over the past year, it has always squeaked a little. Well I am not the smartest guy in the world, and I do consider myself an "OK" mechanic. So I did the math:

Stock set-up:

265/60/R18 Michelin A/S Tire = 36lbs

18 inch Stock Rim = 21lbs

Current set-up:

33 inch MT Baja ATZ Tire = 65lbs

18inch KMC XD Addict Rim = 18lbs

Difference is 26lbs per Tire/Wheel combo.. (There is probably an equation for all of this)

So, 26lbs heavier than stock will hot spot all my rotors????

You have to examine radial forces and inertia in addition to the differences in weight to determine if the larger tire is at fault.

So yes, additional unsprung weight can (not necessarily will) cause effects on other components.

when you do decide to repalce your brake pads there is a company called bg they make a grphite anti squeal for brake pads. all you do is apply it on the pads surface and allow to dry for about an hour before install and this helps alot
