You assume that is who I am, and/or who my friends are? And only people like that would put 35's on his OR her truck, right..?

You, my friend, are a closed minded idiot...IF and I emphasize..IF...that is your true belief (which it certainly seems like it is).

It sounds like you have NO personal experience with running 35" tires on stock gears...so your input on this subject really isn't worth our time.

Fact of the matter is....it will work....it IS working for COUNTLESS amounts of F-150 owners. These trucks are tough enough to handle it, and if you have Tranny shift issues...get yourself a programmer, or if you really want to...new gears.

Like, I said, I am perfectly happy with my setup, which I have been running for 10,000 miles. Before that I ran 325/60/18 (33.5") with NO tuner for 60,000 miles. And I was perfectly happy with that setup as well.
A tad thin-skinned don't ya think?

Bud - if have read any of my other posts - it was a joke - hell, I commonly refer to myself as Bubba

Lighten up, willya?

And I have driven enough of these things back-to-back to know the difference - and it's huge. That's one reason I'll never do it.

...Besides the 'hillybilly' look aspect

Something to consider. You state that you test drove on and it had plenty of power. Now take 10% of that power away as that is what you are doing going from the stock 31-32" tire to a 35. If you start at a 3.73, you are down to about a 3.31. If you start at a 3.55, you are down to about a 3.08. If you tow anything, you do not want to tow more than about 2k with those rears.
Even a 4.10 on the 35s would bring you back close to OE gears.

Here's some additional perspective - from someone who would know ...

Note the emphasis on tranny temps....

i have 33 inch tires on my truck and i hate the loss of acceleration. You should get the 3.55 and when you decide to upgrade to the bigger tires, you can upgrade the gears too. it is a win win if you get the truck you really want now, and then you get the goodies you want later.

There is more effect on performance (acceleration, braking, turning, and fuel economy) than just the size delta. Larger tires weigh more, sometimes a lot more like 65 pounds vs. 40 pounds. The effect of an extra 20 pounds is a lot more than adding 80 pounds in the truck bed.

I hated my heavy 33" tires and replaced them with lighter stock 32" tires and instantly noticed the improved performance, especially when towing my 6500 pound travel trailer.

I've got 3.73's on mine with 35's and a VMP SCT3 tuner. It's got gobs of torque, can light them up off the line (although expensive) and I didn't notice much loss of power at all. The 6 speed tranny is key with the low 1st gear. I don't notice it constantly shifting at all. I don't tow anything though. I had the same 35's on my 07 with 3.53 gears and the drop in power was quite noticeable even with the PHP tune.

I have the '09 Lariat 4x4 with a 5.4 and 3:55 and 305/55R20 All Terrains, daily driver for work, and tow a 18ft utility trailer with a 1400lb Polaris Ranger about 800 miles round trip. Some of the grades are at 7%, I run 75 to 80 mph and never see the tranny temp increase. I wasn't sure on the 3:55's either, but seem to do fine with what I am towing.

Thanks everybody for all your input here.....

Do to the awsome deal I got with employee pricing, I ended up going with an FX4 (with luxury package) and obviously 3.73'....... I'm picking er up tomorrow!

Eventually I'll probably re-gear but for the time being I think I'm going to run a gryphon programmer and some siped 285/75/18 toyo m/t's or some 325/65/18 dunlop maxx tracs.

I spend a lot of time driving through the rockies so the snow and ice performance is pretty important to me.

I'll be sure to post picks after I get the truck levelled with the new shoes

3.73 is a good gear. I still get good mileage and can haul a decent payload. But if you are going to run a bigger tire, performance losses is noticeable as mentioned earlier. Torque transfer to acceleration and sustaining road speed on inclines and hauling is the most effected IMO. F150 Raptor trucks come equipped stock with 4.10 gears running a 35" tire (315-70-17s BFGs) and they seem to be liked. However, the lifted crowd all seem to adopt the 4.56s as the 35-37" gear of choice. Maybe because there is nothing available for fords between 4.10 and 4.56?

I have been looking for a set of 4.10s for my truck, and I just run 33x12.5-R20 (305-55-20) Mickey Thompson ATZs on a 2.5" level. I just tow a 12ft enclosed snowmobile trailer (3000lbs loaded) and the wind drag is enough for me to want more gear.

Will changing gears affect the ford factory e-locker? Or does it continue to work like normal, other than having to reprogram for the new gear size.

Rough comp of size from 31" which I have (18") and measured, to 35" will take your 3.73 ratio and make it act like about 3.31 ratio, then of course the extra weight of tires.

People with king ranch dont tow, or go off road. Their definition of an excursion is a trip to home depot with the wife to pick up some daisys. 3.55 will do you fine, and you will get better gas mileage on the interstate on your trip to nantucket or marthas vinyard
