First Oil Change

First Oil Change
I got my truck July 3rd and currently have 3,820 miles on it. I called the dealer when I was at 3,000 to schedule an oil change. The dealer told me that they are sticking to 5,000 miles between oil changes and that I don't have to come in till it hits 5,000.
Is this odd? I always thought that the first oil change should be between 3,000-3,500 miles.....
My oil life percentage is at 47%........

But I will change it every 6 months thereafter since I don't put but about 8,000 miles per year on any one vehicle.
I've also been performing a hard break in and will continue until my first oil change.
P.S. I'm right because I slept at a Holiday Inn Express. :santa:

I'm using synthetic and doing 7,500 miles change and I'm between first and second changes [10,000 miles] . But for a week the stupid computer tells me I must change oil now !! The week before that same stupid computer told me I had turned off the traction control !
I hates computers !
I hates computers !
That's why they give you an owner's manual and tell you how to resets the oil life monitor. <---hint, hint
BTW, what exactly did you types that post on?

You can use the new era intervals if you like, I am not one to attempt to convince you otherwise, I just smile at the thought of you being perfectly content in your guided brilliance. I myself have done numerous oil studies that could keep the board reading for hours but, If you have never pulled a fresh engine down after a two hour dyno run and inspected the wear pattern and propagation of mating materials and wear metals in the oil filter media. you could only guess as to what I was typing.
