Cool REX Billett Grill install (pic heavy)

Well about a week ago I pulled the trigger on A REX Billett Grill Powercoated Black. So I thought I would share the install and see what everyone thing.

So here is the before Pic so you can get a good refferance ..

Here is the grill fresh out of the box.

So first I taped off all the painted area around the old grill as not to scratch up the paint.

Removed the grill by removing the 6 10mm nuts at the top of the backside of the grill and the 2 10mm bolts at the bottom backside of the grill. Once they were removed unknowningly tryed to pull the grill off thinking that was all that was holding it on and BOY was I wrong.. Along the top of the painted part of the grill there are 5 plastic prongs with metal clips on them that snap in to the hood. Well needless to say I broke of the left 3..Talk about pissed. You will see in the second picture where the prongs with the metal clips go. So if anyone planes on doing this you will know what to do with out breaking them off. I was able to JB weld them back on and seem to be holding so far..lol

Next was time to cut out the center of the old grill to make way for the REX grill. So I broke out the old jig saw did some measureing asper the instruction and went to town.

After cutting out the grill I was left with alot of grinding to do so out came the good old Dremel and again went to town. You will see in the picture just what needed to be groung down . Needed them ground down even with the sides of the grill.

So after drilling holes asper instructions and making sure that the new grill fit flush to the face of the grill trim I screwed it all in and reinstalled the same way it was removed and here is the finished resoults. Make a note before you have the grill all screwed into the grill frame remove the tape from step one or you will be pulling your hair out trying to get the tape off the REX grill is a very factory like fit and makes it very hard to remove the tape.

Over all I was VERY happy with the REX grill it has a factory like fit and VERY well made only down fall was the over exposed instruction that came with it witch made for very hard reading on the brighter side I gave a call over to American Truck N' Auto Accessories thats where I ordered it from and they e-mailed me a PDF of the instructions..SCORE!! and with that being said Thanks for looking and let me know what you thing..

Rob

I like the look.

Where did you get the grill?

Can you put the oval back one with this kit?

It almost looks like you've already worna few places through the powdercoat on the new grill or is it just the angle of the pictures?

Grill looks great! I'd like to do it but I'd be scared of destroying the factory grill.

I think that's the flash from the camera.

I may be the only one, but i don't like that u can see alot more thru the grille. Kinda looks like u don't have a grille....maybe it looks different in perso though.

^yeah it does seem like that. I also had a black billet grille on my old 04 truck. so that's why I did put the emblem back on but also got black overlay stickers for the emblem to go with the black theme. also you don't have to cut out the factory grille on the 04-08 trucks in order to install one of these billet replacement grilles.

Looks great

Nice fit to the factory frame. I have also been deciding between the T-Rex and the Street Scene in polished.
