Gas tanks: What are my options?

Our 2010 KR came with the 26gal tank (2WD). Since this is going to be a primary tow vehicle for my race car, Id like to consider either the upgrade to the 36gal tank from Ford, OR, an aftermarket tank in 36+ gallon capacity.

Ive been looking around on various sites, and I cant even find a part number for the 36 gallon tank from Ford. Assuming I could get one, is it a direct drop in on our SCREW 5.5' bed? Im also having a hard time finding a tank from an aftermarket supplier that will fit.

Thoughts?

I would not bother with aftermarket when you have the factory option available. Call your local dealer and talk with the parts dept, They will be able to tell you exactly what you need.

A while back I looked at toolbox gas tanks. It looked exactly like a tool box for the bed, but it held gasoline and could be hooked up to the stock fuel tank to increase capacity greatly.

Called the local dealer, they cant find a part number for the 36 gal tank.

I tried looking on Tascas website, but they only go up to MY09. Any other suggestions?

Might try talking to the body shop at the dealer. They may have more insight.

Was the 36 gallon tank even a factory option with the 5.5 bed?

I seem to recall seeing it on numerous 4x4 trucks.

How about carrying a 10 gallon gas can in the back of your truck?

Next time you are at the dealer, Have a look under the FX4's and see just what would prevent you from using the large FX4 tank. It seems you would have more room under the 2WD being there is no transfer case or extra crossmember.

I found several listed at Silver states.

Probably have to do a little research on capacities however.
