1) You wrote, “46k seems highly inflated for a Lariat. I got my truck (above), which stickered at 52k, out the door for 40k even back in March 2009."

Out the door means tax, tags etc included. In this post from 09 you wrote that it was $40k BEFORE tax.

On 7/03/2010, you wrote, “I got it for 12k off the MSRP on the sticker which was just a tad under 52k, so about 40k. My 2004 Lariat w/every option possible except overhead entertainment system, netted me the exact KBB trade of that time of 10k. Then I added on the TTL and a few dealer accessories (bedliner, RMST and rear splash guards), which made my loan about 32k when all was said and done.” https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...i-do-good.html

To answer Langford's question of "And how the heck did you get 52k truck out the door for 40k?", it wasn’t $40k out the door. It was $42k out the door (or $32k including the trade.) Comet was $2k off on his advertised out the door price. That makes a big difference.

Next, I’m not going to argue with you about the trade-in price. Let’s say $10k was the exact trade in price. Lowballed or not, even at $10k that is where they make money, the trade in price is thousands less than the going retail.

But look here: Steve bought a Platinum about the same time you did and traded in a very similar Lariat. He got $16930 for his trade and $6900 off the new truck.

You got $12k off and $10k for your trade.

Was Steve's truck worth $16.9K and your truck only worth $10k? No, both trucks were probably truly worth somewhere in the middle at trade-in price. Was yours an amazing deal because you got more off the new truck? No, because you got much less in trade. Steve got $16,930k for his trade which is $6930 more than you did. Then he got $6900 off the new truck. Total $13,830.k+ compared to your $12k. You either get more off the new truck or more for your trade. Nothing amazing happened, in fact, I think you got lowballed by a couple thousand on the trade and with the $2k missing from the out the door price up above it all makes sense now. All in all you got an ok deal but not amazing. They just took the money that they would have given you for the trade in and gave you more off the new truck. It's all a numbers game.
