2011 F-150 4x4 EcoBoost MPG 15 City 21 Highway

not really...all we have is speculation until guys get them out on the street and provide some real world feedback. It sounds like some guys here want the Ecoboost to be a flop. But with CAFE and those government MPG standards coming in the near future, you guys should just accept the technology. It will only get better as Ford tweaks it and makes it better over the next few years.

Ok, I can see your point there to some extent but I doubt the difference in range will be very drastic between the EB and the 5.0.
If the mileage is cut in half on both motors the EB will get 10.5 and the 5.0 will get 9.5. This give the 5.0 69 miles more range. However, I doubt those numbers. The EB makes its power much lower than the 5.0 so that motor will need to be pushed harder to pull the same amount of weight upping the fuel usage. Since Ford does not publish fuel usage at max throttle it is really all a guess. I would be willing to bet there was a good reason they stuck with the smaller tank on the EB. Too bad that reason will probably never leave the Ford Engineering department.

A Ford engineer stated that the ecoboost would get within 1 mpg of a V8 while towing- but he didn't say which way up or down

So true. And true for many things.
We won't really know if the heavier rear end and bearings are true either until we can digest the part#s to see if anything changed.
And the reason why they have now offered 4.10s on FX4 max tow w/20's.
We need a better source in the Ford truck dept.

Can someone explain this line of thinking?
26 gal tank x 21MPG = 546 miles
546 miles / 70MPH = 7.8 hours
How big is your bladder to be able to drive for nearly 8 hours straight? I have done my fair share of road trips and could never dream of 8 hours non-stop. Do you want kidney stones?
I was hoping for 23-24 MPG but can live with 21. Compared to my 2005 with the 5.4 it is no contest. In that truck I have gotten 20MPG once, driving on flat ground going 60MPH drafting a RV in normal driving I get 15-16. If the EB can give me 5-6 more MPG without drafting a house plus +60HP/+60Tq I will be one happy camper.

you can't **** on the side of the road?

Betcha he didn't say which V8 either. I'd bet that even the 6.2 will get similar mileage to the 5.0 and EB towing a big trailer.
#176
Doesn't really matter does it? If I can get way better than the 6.2 with my ecoboost unloaded, and tie it or be close while towing, I come out way ahead and will be one happy camper
