Cool My first (and most likely last) tank of E85

I just thought I would try and tank of E85 just for kicks. It was $.30/gal cheaper than 87 ($2.41 vs. $2.71). Well, the results sucked. My normal mileage in the city is 16.5. I got a whopping 11.2 for the tank.

We used to run that crap in a Durango back when I worked in college, that stuff sucked then and sucks now. I will never put it any vehicle of mine, thanks for the post though and reaffirming my belief. The guy who sold me my truck at the dealership was excited about these trucks being flex fuel capable, he was about 3 years behind the times and somewhat slow..... First thing I did was remove that stupid looking badge.

2.71 for regular... must be nice, 2.98 when I left Illinois on the 23rd and its 3.05 here in Maryland near my folks.....

Yea, 2.71 must be nice. 3.05-3.09 here.
Flex fuel is just a cheaper fuel, that seems to be about it. You lose quite a bit of power when running it and obviously mileage too.

That's not supposed to happen - in fact, the 5.4 FFV had higher HP and torque ratings on it starting in 09. It's just going to burn quite a bit more - just how much more varies from vehicle to vehicle.

Yeah you will burn alot more when compared to 87 octane. It has its advantages though especially if you are into performance. Guys with turbo cars can really crank up the boost when you run E85. As for my truck ill just stick with 87.

That's because the people in CT keep voting in radical left-wing lunatics who feel your money is their money. It's all taxes.

I filled up at $2.65 last week, but we're up around $2.75 now. You do indeed gain a few more ponies from using e85, but your loss in fuel mileage doesn't even come close to making up the difference in price. Even Ford recommends shorter maintenance intervals on oil/etc when using e85 consistently.
