Trying to buy a 2010 from a stubborn dealer... need advice

Went to the dealership this afternoon trying to trade in my 2005 f-150 STX for a new 2010 FX4 extended cab. The sticker price was $43,885. The dealer is giving me nothing off the sticker. The only discounts I am received are the $3500 rebate plus an additional $500 for being a recent college graduate. They offered $7200 roughly for my trade in plus i'm putting down another $10,000. After tax title and license we are sitting around $402 a month for a payment. I'm trying to get around $375 but $350 would be great. Currently the deal breaker is $1800. They want me to put down another $1800 to get my payment to what I want. I feel like they could at least come off the sticker $1800 or better. Is this reasonable or am I just thinking crazy? This is my first truck to buy on my own so I need the advice of some experienced veterans haha. I know this topic is beat to death on this forum so I apologize. Thanks ahead of time for any help

If you are not getting at least 20% off MSRP find another dealer. With the 2011's on the lot, I think 23-25% is possible.

Don't you dare pay their sticker price. Every dealer is offering at least $7,500 off sticker price. Do your own homework on autotrader and cars.com. I've got two dealers pit against each other here in MD for a loaded FX4 SC. sticker is $43800, and one is at $36,600 no haggle. The other I am using my True Car customization that shows a 'local dealer' is selling my truck for $34,700.

Good choice, nobody should be paying MSRP for 2010's. They should have the price close to invoice price. You may want to talk to the internet salesman. He will normally have the lowest price.

I just got a 2010 STX last week...

Sticker was 34,645

They knocked 6500 off in rebates and discounts and they gave me 14,500 for my 06 STX which is KBB Excellent...

Originally they were only gonna give me 12,500 for my trade.

Had to hagle for the rest..

Negotiate the price of the 2010 first; don't talk or mention trade. You should be able to get at least 20% off sticker. Once settled on the price, talk trade.

Find another dealer. I was looking tonight at a 2010 Platinum edition with all the options. It had a sticker of $50,830 and then had a 6" lift, 20" Fuel Offroad Hostage rims, 35" Terra Grapplers, Painted pocket style Bushwackers and tinted windows. It was at $59,930 with the add-ons. They came down to giving me invoice for the truck, which was $46,308.76. Then took off $5500 in rebates. And then added $5500 for the aftermarket parts. So right now they're giving me invoice price for the truck with all the add-ons and $20,000 for my trade-in, which is a 2008 Nissan Titan PRO-4X in great shape with 43,000 miles. You can do way better!

You can do MUCH better, check out this ad from where I got my truck (Brandon Ford) in Florida. 2010 Screw 4x5 for 31k. And another bit of advice, NEVER EVER EVER EVER negotiate a monthly payment. Set a price in your mind that's right for you and negotiate price and price alone. Simple terms think New truck minus your trade plus TTL. Know that number and go get it.

I am a dealer (bmw and mazda). You can get that truck for right around 9k off and I believe another 1500 if you finance with ford motor credit. So tell that one to kiss your@$$ and go to another. The guy that said get your best price then tell them you have a trade is exactly correct we hate that but it absolutely works in your favor. This week is the best week to get you a new truck more than any other week in the year we need them gone and some states the dealer has tompay interest on inventory so they need them gone. Good luck and work them hard they will give you a good deal or just call up another one.

I just got a 2010 FX4. MSRP is 43 grand. I got a quote from USAA Credit union for $36,000. When I got to the dealer I talked the internet sales manager down to $31,000. I put $15,000 down and my payments are $299.99per mo. Be patient and do your homework. If they won't work with you then leave them your number and tell them to call if they want a sale. Remember, they need you, you don't need them. Especially when you already have a perfectly good truck.

That is some of the best advice you'll ever get when negotiating for a new truck/car.

I picked my 2010 4x4 Lariat SCrew up in Oct for $10k off sticker, so that dealer is smoking crack if he thinks he is getting sticker price for it.

Move on to another dealer and good luck in your quest.
