Is This A Good Deal?

So, I went to my local Ford Dealership today to look at the new 2011 F-150s for my grandfather. He wanted me to drive the 3.7L and the 5.0L to see if I liked them and if he would liked them.

Well, after having driven both I was about to leave and saw an awesome looking 2010 Platinum 4x4. It's Tuxedo Black and has all of the Platinum options but also: 3.73 gears, skid plates, moonroof, rubber mats, max trailer tow, Sony nav/radio, and tailgate step. These are the factory options. The MSRP is $50,930. Invoice price is $46,308.76. Now, this particular truck has been lifted with a 6" ProComp Stage 1 lift, 20" Fuel Offroad Octanes, 35" Nitto Terra Grapplers, painted Bushwacker pocket-style fender flares, and tinted front windows. With the add-ons, the price of the truck was $59,830.

First offer was a joke, as usual. Second offer came down more and upped my trade in. Last offer I took and am "sleeping on it" until tomorrow. They are giving me invoice for the truck and less $5500 for rebates. Then charging me $5500 for the add-ons. I feel that $5500 is a pretty good price for lift, rims, tires, tint, flares, paint, and installation.

So the price right now is $46,308 which is roughly $14,000 off of MSRP.

Now for my trade-in, I have a 2008 Nissan Titan PRO-4X. Right now it has 43,000 miles. My truck is fully loaded for it's year and has almost every option available except side air bags, nav, rear seat DVD, and sunroof. It stickered for $40,070 when I purchased it on June 1, 2007. They first offered me $17,000. And I then got them up to $20,000 after they "called the Nissan dealership." I still owe $9,000 on my truck. So basically, right now, I'm looking at financing $35,000.

Now, do you think that this price is good for the truck? $14K off MSRP (with add-ons). Also, do you think that's good for the trade-in? NADA rates the truck at $23,000 as a clean trade-in.

Any information you can give me would be appreciated. If it matters or if anyone has any connections, I'm dealing with Mac Haik Ford in Houston, TX.

Thank you in advance for your help/assistance.

I think the Platinums are way too expensive for what you are getting. I say go for the 2010 FX4 and ask for invoice pricing for all extras you may want like the moon roof. Also when you buy a new truck you can talk them into throwing a few extras in like tinting your windows. That's what I did.

If you do a search on the internet for lift kits, you will see that you can get excellent lift kits plus wheels and tires for under $4,000.00

sounds like a good deal to me, plus u get a sharp truck without the headache of adding all that stuff yourself, plus if u like me i hate to shell out 4 or 5 grand cash (if i had it) when i can finance it for little interest

That's what I'm saying. Having had a modified truck now, it SUCKS having shell out all that cash at once. You feel broke instantly

It's to each his own I guess. I really like the truck. I like the way it looks. I like the color combo all around and the nice touches of the Platinum. Hell, the power roll-out steps are awesome, especially with the lift. I'm usually also not much of a chrome fan, but it looks killer on this truck.

So, personal preference aside, do you think I'm getting a good deal on this truck?

Also, the truck has 200 miles on it. I don't know if that matters.

I don't think it's such a good deal. You're really not getting $14k off because you're selling for under trade-in and buying the aftermarket package at retail. It's probably more like $9-10k off which is not great on a loaded Platinum.

And the amount financed is going to be closer to $38,000 with tax and tags. Financing that kind of money is going to be about $700-$900 a month payment on an outgoing 2010 with an underpowered 5.4 and 35" tires. And I don't really care for the pro comp lift or fuel octanes (just took a look at them on eBay.)

Thank you for your input. I'm planning on pushing more for the higher value on the trade-in tomorrow. And if they can't get more than $20,000 for it, They're going to make up for it by bringing down the price more.

Also, you don't think $10,000 off is very good. Most folks on here were saying that 20% off is pretty good. I'll keep pushing for more tomorrow. I want this truck, but I don't need it. Thank you for your info.

Let's consider the aftermarket lift package a separate transaction and not involve that. $9000 was way overpriced anyway.

MSRP: $50,930.00
Invoice: $46,308.00
Rebates: $5,500.00
MSRP - Invoice = $4,621.24 off

TOTAL OFF: $4,621.24 + $5,500. = $10,121.24 or about 19.6%.

But to get there they give you $3,000.00 less in trade. So it's really $7,121.24 off.

$7,121.24 / $50,930.00 = 13.98% off MSRP.

And for a 2010 I would want to see closer to 25% off with it being last year's model and having the 5.4 I don't see how this is a good deal but I also don't see the dealer coming down very much more because someone will come along and see the big lift and just have to have it at their price eventually.

I purchased my 2010 fx4 from my dealer a year ago with a 6in bds lift, and a rim/tire package. Just like you they wanted 10k for the "mods". I got that down to around 6k. Xplan got me to invoice minus the incentives available at the time. IMO I thought I got a good deal.

Now that its a year later i think you could do a little better than I did.

Thank you for the information, guys. I'm going to push for more on the trade-in when I get back there today. I also ran the numbers on the mods and they come out to about $5000 with installation. That's another $500 there. And there's also the student discount of $500 that I can get as well. I'll try to get another $1000 and get another $2000 on the trade-in.

I also am going to talk to them about switching the mirrors out for tow mirrors and swapping the tires out for Toyo M/T's. That's what I have now and I love them. Thanks for the help guys. And thanks for making me look for an even better deal!

You are about $8k away from a good deal. Heck, you are even in Texas. Should be getting $12k off, $5k for the mods, and another $4k for your trade.

Sell the Titan on your own. Separate the transactions.

For $46k, you can get a very nice Super Duty diesel.

$8000 more off? Mods aside, I'm at invoice less $5500 which is about $10,000 off MSRP. You think I need to be at $18,000 off? That doesn't seem all that realistic.

I agree. There is something else I forgot. He lost the original Platinum wheels and tires! They go for $1500-$2000 on eBay. But the dealer is still charging him for them. He lost the original flares. There's another $100. This is the price you pay when the dealer does the mods, keeps/sells the originals and charges you for both. The dealer is making out like a bandit here.

edit: I also wonder what kind of spare tire there is if any with the tires being swapped out for 35's.

He means $12k off. Then $500 less than their offer on the mods. The trade-in is separate for $4k more. So about $6.5k if you include the trade or $2.5k without. You're not at invoice less $5500. when you involve the trade because they are taking the money they would have given you for trade and given you invoice less $5500. Also, note the original wheels/tires/flares are lost but they still charge you for them. That's another $1500-$2000.

Yikes... I would be after a 2011 6.2L version. The 5.4 3V engine is a hunk of junk. You will be VERY disappointed with that 5.4 3V. The 6.2L replacement could not come along fast enough. The 6.2L trucks feel very nice and bring the driving feel back to what the old 5.4 2V engines used to be. I would never suggest a 2004-2010 5.4 3V to anyone. They make good boat anchors though.
