Custom Lower Grill insert...What do you think?

Well guys, I could not find an after market lower grill that I thought matched the FX2 grill very well(rectangular egg crate looking), so I thought I would get creative and share the results. I went down to the local sheet metal shop and below is what we came up with in about 15mins., $7.50, and a can of flat black Rustoleum. I have another idea using some Black 1/2" Styrene Egg Crate Louver(most local fish stores will have it) but I was thinking the squares might look a little to small...If I try that one I will post some follow up pics.

I used some locking type fender washers i had laying around under a couple of the existing bolts...VERY secure and really help hold it to the natural curvature of the bumper.

Since the bottom was so secure, I jut zip tied the top to the license plate mounting notches

Looks good. I like it.
Trucks without a front license plate appear to have such a big gaping hole there.
You've solved that.

I was thinking maybe a billet in black, but yours doesn't look too bad. Either that or I was going to cover it up with a bull bar?

I've heard from a few folks that I should sell this...specifically to them...haha, the ultimate compliment. If I get a few more PM's I will run back to my metal guy and make up a batch for the folks on this forum that really want one and just do a them a favor for the cost of materials and shipping(a small way I can contribute to this community).

Anyone know the size of that opening? I'm at work and can't measure right now.

21" wide playing the curve and 20.5" w/o and 5.25" high. I have my grill material resting on the inside of the bumper to maintain perfect level with the opening so I made mine 9" tall to be safe. If you fab. something, please post pics. and share your craft.

I got that lower grille insert from someone on here for like 72$ but it's black. Looks much cleaner now.

I do like the billet grills(especially when you install both the upper and the lower) although I always felt one could/should be offered in a bit different style to match the stock FX grill...this was my first creative attempt to resemble the stock look. tomorrow i'm going to try a honeycomb version, post some pics and see what you guys think...

That's the best one I've seen so far today! Excellent job. I bet you could sell those.

Thanks for the info. Been looking for an alternative to the lower billit grill for a while. If I come up with something I'll be sure to post.
