Back to the OP. I was all set to get a 2011 FX2 and while trying to track one down, I started checking out some 2010 Platinums. I am going to check one out tomorrow and I just might bring one home. The interiors are awesome and I am pretty sure I ccan get one for the price I would pay for a FX2. I like the better towing specs of the 5.4 over the 5.0. I don't drive many miles per week so the potential fuel economy (still an unknown) difference won't be a big deal and it will certainly do better than my diesel I am trading. A couple weeks ago, I would not have considered the 2010 but things change, I guess. The 5.4 can't be all that bad... look at what Shelby has done that "garbage" as Cub Cadet so eloquently described it 540 to 800 hp ain't too bad and maybe a supercharger will end up on mine if that is what I end up with.

I've touched 20mpg at 70mph in mine while cruising with the 5.4. Contrary to the earlier post calling it garbage I tend to disagree.

According to the 2010 and 2011 sales brouchers i have a 4.6 3V in 2010 and a 5.0 2011 both 4x2 are rated the same at 15 city and 21 highway.

Maybe so, but I think real world mileage will be a bit better.

The 6R80 transmission is used in the 2007+ F150 trucks (which includes 2011), Expedition and Navigator. The same transmission is also used in the 2010+ Mustang (maybe even earlier years).

For the 2011 F150, Ford added SelectShift and some other changes to 6R80:
"The revamped 6R80 transmission provides smoother operation and better fuel economy. SelectShift Automatic™ capability, progressive range select and manual mode are added, allowing customers the convenience of an automatic transmission for routine operation combined with the ability to select and lock gears"

Went from '09 King Ranch 4x4 to '11 Lariat 4x4 5.0. Better mileage already & much better performance. I had 75K on '09.

Hopefully the guys with the 5.0 in there trucks will hand calculate and let us know.I was at the dealership on New Years day a 2011 F-150 Supercab 4X4 5.0 with 3.55 gears mileage rating on the sticker was 15 city 19 highway. My 2010 Supercab 4X4 4.6 3v with 3.73 gears mileage rating on the sticker was 14 city and 20 highway.I know you can't go by the dash reading for mileage it's off by at least 1.5 mpg.

Selectshift is not standard. Only trucks with the towing package have it.

All trucks do have a 6-Speed Auto with Tow/Haul Mode.

Im not sure but the 6.2L Trucks may have the 6R140 instead of the 6R80.

I test drove a '10 STX regular cab with a 4.6L 2V and a '11 STX regular Cab with the 3.7L; the V6 out performs the reliable 4.6L 2V above 3K RPM's. But, the V6 exhaust sounds very wimpy at WOT.

If you want fuel mileage go with the 3.7L in a super cab. If you want tow ability go with the 5.0L.

tried the 4.6 but seat uncomfortable

Well when I sat in the bench seat in the show room and test drive with the 4.6 liter all seemed fine. Then the 3 hour drive home and I just could not find a comfortable seat position for my 6'5" body with the bench split XLT. Drove it for a couple more days and phoned the dealer about upgrading. No problem, come on back we'll find some thing that will fit you better.
First looked at an upgraded XLT with captains chair and it seemed OK but then the sales man showed me a Lariat with black leather and candy apple red paint. Sony sound system and the chrome package and I just had to have it. What a beauty. Now I'm going to get one of those buffers and some of the Wet Diamond product and try and shine it up just like Birdhunter has done with his red truck. FS

I'm pretty sure the 6R80 tranny wasn't put in the F150 until 2009. My dad's 2008 KR has the old 4 speed I believe.
