Questions about my 2010 F150 Platinum 4x4

Hello,
Happy to be a part of such a cool site. I bought a 2010 F150 Plat 4x4 in Nov. I have wanted an F150 my whole life (my Dad has had many from 1973 to now) and it is like a $55,000 truck so I sure do not want to mess it up in anyway; depending on all of your knowledge here. 1) I would like to get a K&N 63 series cold air intake (CAI). After doing some research here I have a couple questions; the CAI advertizes a 11+ HP gain. Does just the drop in K&N not offer a gain at all? $50 bucks compared to $321... so if the drop in offers a gain I might just go with that. Plus and maybe since my truck is so new I am being squimish here I am not sure I want to mess with the install. I do want only the best for this truck thought 2) Leveling; I really want to level it out but if I rasie the front I am really afraid that it will not clear under my garage door. Very standard garaage, call it 2+ car that you find in like every home in a sub-division these days. Anyone had a problem with their truck not clearing the door, parking garages, etc... after a front in level job? I really need to find ways to even if it is just slightly, increase my MPG; it really isn't after 6500 miles (I bought it with 2800 as a demonstrator) getting very good MPR (16.4). 3) can "chip tunning" or the like get me better performance and better MPG? If I have it tunned will it no longer be able to run on 87 oct b/c I will not buy anything higher anyway? Thanks everyone, so far I love this truck no matter how much in fuel it is costing me....

First, I wouldn't waste my time with another K&N product. The stock air filters flow pretty good and eliminate any chance of contaminating your airflow sensors with oil from the filters, and I've never seen any unbiased/independent testing that proves their claims of more horsepower. Regarding leveling, I put 1.5" Autospring spacers on mine. I have 7' garage door and the only thing that hits is the antenna tip...which did not before I leveled it out.

I put a K&N CAI originally on my 09 Platinum. I didn't see much improvement in HP but did improve the MPG by about 2. It also made the engine louder getting rid of all those air boxes. I then put on an 87 octane performance tune on and that did improve the performance.

It's also possible that a level will actually decrease your MPG's. The theory is that more tire is exposed causing an increase in aerodynamic drag. (the air hitting your tires causes more 'friction')

So beware that some of the mods you have planned may contradict what you are trying to achieve.

I also think that 16mpg isnt too terrible for the 5.4L engine.

Congrats on the truck! I hope a Platinum is in my future.
