2011 F150 FX4 Crew Cab or 2011 Tundra Crew Maxx cab or Tundra TRD Rock Warrior

I agree here. The interior looks like they just grabbed parts from other vehicles and threw them at the tundra. I find it hideous, but I've never been impressed with Toyota interiors other than Lexus. My wife has a 2010 4Runner Limited and the interior is just cheap looking.

I am a mechanic, I won't bash the Tundra or Tacoma, but I'd never in a million years buy one. Regardless of the frame strength video that came out, I see them first hand. The frame really is not that great, the rear differential is very small and the rear suspension is not all that strong. The front differential looks like a fine unit, they do have great brakes, but the front coil over set up is puny. As for the engines, they do not leak, but they are noisy (valve clatter), especially at idle. As far as power, eh.... not bad but not great. The interior finish is HORRIBLE, the seats are not very comfortable. Gauge layout sucks. Good luck in whatever you do purchase, but Ford has stepped up their game since you've owned your 08 4Runner, while the quality of Toyota has been going downhill.

I've always been a fan of Toyota. I never even considered Ford until I bought my last truck (2003 F-250 6.0L Scab). I loved that truck and it definitely converted me. I looked at Tundras when I was looking to trade. A brand new truck on Toyota's lot, never owned, had 5 open recalls on it. Also, the Fords were less money with the same options. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Good luck with yours.

Yes its a good truck. Back to the frame though - those Toyota guys complain a lot about the vibrations, bed shake and thin metal - not truck like ( was poking around on there not long ago as I was considering a new truck...). It seems most of those folks are more very light use folks. but if thats your intent - it will work well. And yes that engine is nice.

[QUOTE=fx4 for life 79;4457292]another thing about the interiors is at least in mine there are 3 or 4 different colors and it makes it hideous[/QUOT
the platinum looks like dookie. judging by the comments people like spending 50 grand for fake plastic wood finish. its all over the truck
the exterior looks like a turtle

and this is the 2011 fx4 to compare it against for those that dont have one

That said, in head-to-head test drives between the Tundra and the F150, the Ford won, hands down -- and even my daughter and wife concurred. The Ford was simply better in every way. (Disclaimer: I was comparing late-model used, not new, trucks. The 2011s may be a whole different kettle of fish,)
If it turns out to be half as reliable and durable as my Toyota, I will be happy.

Ive been a toyota guy for many many years. My 2000 tacoma was a tank. It was well built and strong. But the frame rusted out. Toyota bought it back from me for 7k more than i paid for it and i put 120,000 on it.
My 08 tacoma is terrible. Sheet metal is thin. Road noise is horrible. Engine is great. 50k on it so far and no problems. Seats arent all that comfortable. Between fender wells is exactly 3'11". So a 4x8 piece of plywood or drywall wont fit flat. That annoys the hell outta me. They could have shaved 1/2" off each side and made it 4' even.
Needless to say. Im trading up for a 2011 F150 FX4. I was going to go Tundra, but the looks and feel of the truck is just cheap. And for the same price, I can go Ford and get twice as many options of the inside, better gas mileage, and a nicer looking interior. Toyota is going downhill fast, in appearance and quality. They still hold their value, but im wondering how much longer thats going to hold true. If my new FX4 holds up as well as my last couple toyota trucks, i'll be happy. And i'll be a Ford man form now on.

OP, it seems like you've decided already but have you considered a 10' F150? With all the dealer incentives right now and dealerships trying to unload you may run into some amazing deals. Besides, this may assuage some angst in purchasing a vehicle with a semi-unproven engine.
BTW, I've owned Toyota's my whole life. I started with a 86' Corolla 200K+ miles, 2004 Tundra, 2006 Tundra, 2000 corolla, 4 runners, etc...I know these don't compare to the trucks you're looking at but I think I am unbiased when I say the Ford F150 is a better all around truck. Also you have the option of a crew cab with a 6.5 ft bed if you want in the F150's.
Good luck shopping!
