I am about to order a new 5.0 Ford but the powerband of the 5.7 Toyota kills the Ford in the under 3,000 rpm department.

It doesn't take long to get the Ford over 3000 rpm with the low gear in the 6 speed. The 5.0 is built to rev.

Gotta remember - the Toyota 5.7 is a strong engine in a piece of crap truck. I feel the same way about a Hemi in a Ram.

 

Want the worst half ton? Buy the Tundra.

How can a GMC be 2nd but a Chevy is 4th? Aren't they basically the same truck except that the GMC doesn't look goofy?

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm not too familiar with those two vehicles. Kinda like between a f150 and a Lincoln Mark LT. But again dont now the differences in them either.

Yes GMC and Chevy are the same just different body and interior trim.

The Silverado and Sierra are similar but not the same truck. JD Power rates them differently in quality and reliability. Pickuptrucks.com's 1/2 ton shootout came up with different ratings as well. If they were the same then why the large gap in the shootout? If they were just re-badged clones with different looks then why the large difference in quality? In JD Power the Silverdo had 101 problems per 100 trucks. The Sierra had only 81 problems per 100 trucks. Well, you are NOT comparing evenly matched motors. Fords 5.0 is aligned with toyotas 4.6L. If you want to compare the 5.7L you will then need to look at the Ecoboost or 6.2L. From there, Ford absolutely Trumps toyota

The Chevy and GMC fullsize trucks/SUVs are essentially identical. The only exceptions are that each brand has a few unique trim models, e.g., the Chevy Z71 Tahoe/Suburban/Avalanche and the GMC Denali line. These unique trim models are mostly different interior/exterior panels and various GM parts bin items.

Prior to buying my Raptor a couple weeks ago, I had a 2004 Sierra. Before that, a 2003 Silverado. Before that, a 2001 GMC C3. Before that, a 1999 Silverado. They're all the same truck. Mmany changes were made across the model years, but always to both lines.

The difference in quality reports speaks only of the fact that organizations like JD Power and Consumer Reports have issues with the quality of their data or an inadequate data sample. When I looked at Consumer Reports' ratings of the 1999-2006 GMC/Chevrolet pickups, I couldn't help but laugh. Their data was so inconsistent between the trucks and between different years of the trucks, you'd find more similarity between a given year/brand of GM pickup to a random other vehicle in their ratings than you would to its prior year or alternate brand.

Having owned four of them, I can say GM makes a great truck too, and I know what their problems/breaking points are from experience and reading various GM forums. Consumer Reports didn't have a frickin' clue. I can't imagine JD Power being any better.

Use these types of reviews when you want to buy a new washer/dryer. Internet forums are the only reliable way to get real reliability data on vehicles, and it takes a hell of a lot of reading to get a good picture.

 

Actually one of the things I like about the Tundra is the Double-Cab, bigger than the Super-Cab, (enough-so that people can comfortable sit back there) yet you don't have to sacrifice the bed length and/or go for the super-long wheel-base, Crew-Cab with 6.5' bed, that is just that much more of a nightmare to park, than a full-size truck already is.

I believe the 5.7L is the common/volume engine in the Tundra as is the 5.0L will be in the F150 (at least in the 4x4 EXT/Crew-cab models) you can't even get the 6.2L in most trims.......

 

I always find it funny when a survey says something about their favorite brand they attack the survey. I try to look at as many sources as possible. JD Power is one of them. The pickuptrucks.com shootout is another. If you don't like JD Power, then why did the Sierra and Silverado have a large difference in the shootout? Consumer Reports also rates them differently. If you want to argue they are the same because they are made on the same assembly, having different ratings may mean they have a lack of quality control and I would not want to purchase their trucks. Pickuptrucks.com also posted a report on loyalty. If GM died 52% of owners would pick a Silverado. Silverado owners were less loyal and only 32% would pick a GM. So even GM/Chevy owners don't consider them the same truck.

 

It is NOT their common volume engine. The 4.6L is. Most people just opt for the 5.7L. The Ford EB is available across the line-up so you should compare that motor to the 5.7L. Then tell me how the torque curves look vs. each other
