2011 F150 FX4 Crew Cab or 2011 Tundra Crew Maxx cab or Tundra TRD Rock Warrior
Hey everyone, first time forum poster here... I am currently looking to buy a new truck, ive had a dodge in the past.. never again lol. I have an explorer, thats calling it quits, so its time for a new truck. I consider myself a ford guy because ive always liked them, family members had them, and henry ford was an american hero; however, I am not sure if i am completely sold on the new models... i test drove the 11 fx4 and liked it, any problems that anyone knows about? I also realize this is a ford forum; however, any information (not biased) on the tundra rock warrior would be helpful.. If i get ford it would be the 2011 f150 5.0 fx4, if i got the tundra itd be the 2011 tundra crew maxx cab trd rock warrior. Thanks for the help!! I hope i posted this in the right section, if not sorry send me back to toyota lol

I just bought a 2011 FX4 with the 5.0L and could not be happier. i've always liked Ford too but when i was shopping for a new truck i did a lot of research.New trucks aren't cheap so i wanted to get the best bang for my buck.to be honest i would of bought something other than a Ford if i didn't fell it was the best truck out there.i work in the oilfield and it put trucks to the ultimate test and i have not heard a bad thing about the new Fords. are company runs Ford,Chevys, and Dodges. The chevys cant handle it the dodges are ok and the Fords are rock solid. as for the Tundras there hit or miss sum of the companies we deal with run them.some guys like them and some say they wouldn't buy one.guess its what you want and like. just one guys opinion and experience i don't know if it helped.just my 2 cents

For the previous 12 years up until two weeks ago I've owned GM trucks. So I'm not exactly a die hard Ford guy.
I'd rather have the Ford, for quality, style, and performance.
Compare it to GM and Dodge in my opinion, but I wouldn't bother with Toyota. The fact that they run a 3 piece frame with boxed front only, c-channel center, and open rear is a bit ridiculous. That was innovative when it came out on my 1999 Z71. Example (and yes this video is biased to hell, of course):

The 5.0 is a high revving, high compression engine that doesn't make peak torque until 4500 RPM. If the OP wants a towing F150 he should most definitely look into the EcoBoost with max towing package and 4.10 gears.

Personally I'd also have spec'ed the Ecoboost if I could have. From what I've seen though, most all gas V8 truck motors (from all manufacturers) make *peak* torque in the 4XXX RPM range. I wouldn't worry about where a motor makes its peak torque, what's necessary here is to see the full torque curve and look at the low end.

My personal opinion is if you are going to be towing something that would require the max tow package, you would be better off getting a Super Duty.

I bought a 2010 FX2 Crew Cab with a list price of 35 a few weeks ago. I looked at the Tundras at the time too and you get so much more with the Ford for much less of a price. This is actually my very first Ford. I've always drove GM trucks. I love the Ford so far. So much more room than the GM.

I am kinda in your shoes too. I really love my wifes 4Runner, it is, all around, a great SUV. Based on it, I had pretty much decided to ditch Ford and get a Tundra or Taco. I also like the Rock Warrior, but it is just a "stickers and Wheels" package. (nice wheels, though) After I heard about the new motors, I came back to the Ford Camp. My thinking -
1- Taco has a nice motor, but will be a bit too small. Plus 18mpg vs 20 for the Ford, for not much less $$$. Taco was out-
2-Tundra base feels cheap. Tundra with options to make it not feel cheap is getting out of my budget. Tundra optioned out like I wanted Vs F150 XLT with similer options - F150 is about 5 grand cheaper.
3 - 14-15mpg vs 19-21. 'nuff said
4 - Quality/reliability - I think Toy still has the edge, but not by much. The big win for the Toy (to me) is Ford's motors are new, with a lot of new tech and no history. However, VCT has been around long enough now that it should not be an issue, and Mazda has been testing Ford's DI turbo tech for several years in the MX-7 & 9, so hopefully they will not have big issues.
Final word - I am planning on buying in March (truck month) & I will probably give the Tundra another look then. But - If I crashed my old Civic on the way home tonight, I would buy a F150 3.7 Screw tomorrow.
