5.0 vs 5.4

which one is actually better. i am looking for a new truck and dont want the 6.2 because there $13,000 higher. one of the guy at the dealership told me they werent impressed to much when the 5.4 did better than the 5.0. SO THE MAIN QUESTION IS WOULD I BE BETTER TO BUY A NEW 2010 5.4 OR A NEW 2011 5.0?

THANKS

The 5.0 will achieve better fuel mileage and will be quicker in an all-out drag race. There are people that will claim the 5.4 does a better job towing and there are people that will claim the 5.0 does better. In the end, do some research - there are countless threads on there discussing the 5.0 in depth - many of them comparing it to the 5.4. And there are countless articles online about the new engines.

If you want my opinion - don't buy either one. Get the EcoBoost!

I seriously hope you're kidding. The new 5.0 is not legendary. It's a brand new motor (well, 1 year old if you count the Mustang variant) and has absolutely nothing in common with the original 5.0 V8 other than the fact that they both run on gas.

Drive both the 5.0 and 5.4. I did and felt like the 5.0 made the truck feel much quicker. That along with all the other improvements caused me to purchase a 2011 over a 2010.

I went with the 5.4 because it has a higher tow rating than the 5.0 and I got the Platinum that I would not have gotten if I opted for the 5.0 because of cost. Plus, neither of them will come close to the performance of anything else I own. I really don't care if one is quicker than the other because it is all relative and neither is really all that fast. As far as better economy figures, it would take a long time to recover the additional money spent on the 5.0 at the gas pump.

5.0 ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 5.4 3V is garbage... it has no power, can't tow, and has LOUSY gas mileage. I got rid of mine after 15k painful miles. What a waste that was. I drove a new 5.0 and liked the new drivetrain. However, my biggest complaint was with the overall cheapness of the interior.

The 2011 Trasmission seems much better. I also like the productivity screen.

And my opinion only.....the 5.0 really outperforms my 5.4L in daily driving. Smoothness, power and most of all mileage.

Can't speak to towing yet.

I'd go with a 2010...can't beat the awesome rebates at the dealers...plus the 5.4 is proven, in towing and reliability. IMO my 5.4 has plenty of power and response...for a TRUCK. I don't understand why people want trucks they feel should perform like sports cars...

It's got nothing to do with wanting a sports car truck. The technology is available to provide a better performing engine that will achieve much better fuel mileage and offer more 'smiles per mile'.

Why settle for 'less' when Ford is making 'more' available?

Also, to the OP, you've been filled with all kinds if bad information. The 6.2 is not $13k more than the 5.0. Maybe if you're comparing a Limited 6.2 and an STX 5.0.

Whoever says the 5.4 'does better' than the 5.0 is probably one of the Neanderthals that isn't willing to accept new technology. What exactly does 'does better' mean anyway?

I am also very unhappy with the fuel mileage of my 2010 fx4 sCrew.. I am getting 13.5 with 33's and flowmasters.

what model (stx, fx4, plat or what) interior are you referencing to be cheap though? the interior of the fx4 is the main reason i went with it Vs. the chevy. What are you comparing to? The dodge interior was nice but that Hemi ruins it for me..
