mods for a new 2010

Good day gents.

I have just picked up my new 2010 Screw Lariat, candy red with the chrome package. I am pretty happy with the Pirrelli tires and wheels the truck came with, so I won't be changing them too soon.
I guess most folks add a K&N air filter to start with. I will switch the headlight out to the Silverstars. What else should I think about doing? FS

well I was going to say HIDs but silverstars are good too. An exhaust wouldn't be a bad idea and maybe a programmer

Don't buy k&n, they're junk. If you're set on the idea of a CAI, get an AFE pro-dry or an AEM brute force dry. The dry filters offer way better protection and are alot easier maintenanced.

I have the 2009 Lariat Screw. Here are my mods:

Click here for my pages on my NAV install. With XM.

I did the LED mod on the outside reflector on each mirror. (Click here)
Tapped the hidden second USB port.
Installed a Viper 5901 alarm/remote starter
Installed a third party spreyed bed liner.
Installed a Laredo tonneu cover.
Installed 35w HIDs for the fog lights.
Installed a 60" LED brake/turnsignal bar under the tailgate.
Installing a Spyder HALO, LED and HID projector headlight kit this week.
Installed aftermarket mudflaps.
I will probably install a second backup camera that I can hook up to the NAV screen when NOT in reverse. (I have the great backup camera now that shows in the mirror.)
Installed security screws for the tailgate and each tail light.

You will like Silverstar headlights. Much brighter than stock. I don't care for the look of aftermarket HID's. They always look so bad and out of place.

Don't worry about the K&N filter, it's not worth it.

The mods I always do on a new truck are get the front windows tinted to match the back windows, Linex bedliner, and N-Fab nerf bars (if you don't have steps on in the first place)

The first thing I did on my 2010 Screw was tint the front windows....15% SolarGard Supreme, which matches the rear beautifully.

Then I dropped some Husky "Weather Beater" Floor Liners in it - Well worth it.

I also tapped the hidden 2nd USB port and moved my iPod to the Glovebox - Much cleaner.

I believe that my next mod is going to be an Edge CS programmer with a dash pod, because the stock tune and tranny shift points pretty much blow on these trucks.

From there, if I do a cold air intake it WILL be an AEM Brute Force with dry-flow filter. I used to sell them, and also had one on my 2006 F150. Great piece.

And since breathe-in + tune will be handled at that point, it will only make since to address breathe-out and put an exhaust on it. I'm past the loud and aggressive exhaust stage in my life as far as a daily-driver truck is concerned, so I want quiet and low-drone. Have MBRP on my Mustang it sounds nice.

I definitely want a Bak-Flip folding tonneau cover soon also.

No plans for me to modify suspension or wheels/tires at this point either, because I need to keep the ride quality and fuel economy as good as I can on this truck for now.

Well I did get the Silverstars, they were $46.00 for the pair here in Canada. Did not get the Ultras.
Some SOB scratched my lovely candy red paint, geez only had it for 2 weeks.
Guess I'll look at bed liners and a canopy next. FS

The stock intake is good as is... I'd leave it alone and save your $$. At most I'd do a Amsoil drop in filter.

I used to run K&N on everything until I got my 6.0L PSD. Much research led me to staying with stock. Since then, it's been stock Motorcraft for the car and truck. I've considered other dry high efficiency filters, but never went with any. It would be nice to see a video of actual filter tests to see how they all perform. I may have to do some Google surfing...
