How much is too much?

Just looking into the possibility of modding my truck out where i would like it to be and the total is over $10,000 and thats not even price of having anything installed. Of course thats only a few things i wouldnt be able to do myself. But anyway im just wondering how much people have spent on their trucks and what they feel is to much money to drop on mods. The idea of $10k does scare me a little when i look at it as a whole.

We generally do the mods that make us happy at the time. You will get a range of opinions on this subject. It main depends on how much money you have to spend on mods and how satisfied you will be when finished.

Always keep one thing in mind. You will not get back a large portion of the money you spent on mods especially with a trade, and very little even if you sell your truck yourself.

It is your truck do what you want with it, just remember that you are not likely to get a dime of that money back when you sale it.

It is all about your personal finances and needs. I put 10k in my F250 that I lived in on the road for 4 years and 100k miles. I feel I got my moneys worth.

On the other hand I put 10k in a C5 vette and only drove every other weekend and had 7k miles in 3 years. Every time I got in the throttle I felt I got my moneys worth.

So it depends if you have the cash and will enjoy the use of the mods.

I did put 40k into a Lightning one time and it was always broken. I did not enjoy that as much... It is less fun when a $10k dollar stage 3 JDM engine only makes it 3 months. Then costs 3,500 to repair...

It's really limited to your preference and or $$$. $10,000 really isn't that much as long as you plan on keeping it and wanting to do it. If your truck isn't paid for yet I would suggest that you pay the loan down some if you can.

I'm a guy that likes to keep my vehicles virtually stock. Reason being, you tend to lose appreciation for the vehicle. But that's speaking mainly to HP mods. Now if I had a race car that would be a different story. Just my 2 cents worth. What kind of mods are you thinking about doing?

The only 'mods' that will add any value at all will be good wheels/tires, spray in bedliner, and maybe an aftermarket suspension. But they have to be high quality stuff for people to have an incentive to buy when you go to resale.

I think I spent:

$1500 on wheels/tires
$120 Window tint
$425 Linex bed liner
$400 NFab Nerf Bars
$120 2.5" level kit

Add about $500 for certain things to be installed

Moderation is key!

When I first read that someone wanted to thrown down ten large on mods, I thought thought how on earth can someone think to spend that much on what is already a really great truck. To each his own, but man that is a lot of scratch to thrown down on mods. Everybody's threshold of spending money is different, so you aren't going to get a clear answer as to how much is too much. Only you can answer that question.

I spent much less modding my truck, but all I did was spray-in liner ($330), bed mat ($70), toolbox ($350), steps ($125 craigslist score), husky liners ($160), center console swap ($250), and a custom windshield sun shade ($15). Grand total around $1300 before tax. I guess when you start factoring in lift kits, exhaust systems, wheels/tires, then $10K is not all that hard to spend. I just don't see the value or appeal of those types of things.

You didn't really mention what you were looking to do to your truck or mention what trim level, cab style, or 2wd/4wd. If you are going to talk about throwing down that kinda cash, lets hear what your plans are!

I set aside a portion of each check for mods.....First step is admitting you have a problem lol.

In less than a year I've spent a little over $6k and that doesn't include misc stuff like paint, led bulbs or things I've put on and taken back off. It would be much more if I didn't install everything myself. Thankfully I've got most of the big stuff done except I'll be going with a different wheel/tire combo in the summer. That's another $2,500.

If you have the money and want to mod your truck, do it. $10k for mods is very little actually. As long as you understand the only purpose is to make you happy and not to up the resale of your truck.

I try to put all of my spare money towards my loan, that way in the end I paid less interest, which is like throwing away money. But even then every now and then I have to spend a little bit of money on my truck for some goodies. Most recently I bought some new tail lights, now I can go a few more months cold turkey.

id say 10k on a truck is insane, wish i could do that. im debating on long tube headers, revamped custom dual exhaust, tuner, 20" wheels n 35" tires, 3" body lift 6" suspension lift, 4.10 or .35 gears, under drive pulleys, electric fans, maybe electric water pump? idk? new step bars, any other ideas for lower buck mods for a daily long distance driver, id be up for opinions and any experiences with these mods in installation and general performance.

If you have to ask, it's probably too much. Like Super FX4 said use moderation. If you are rich, then go ahead. If not, then I wouldn't be spending anywhere near that on a F150. What are you thinking about doing?
