Ok, I've read various threads about ticking and knocking, but my current issue doesn't match the ones I've seen.

When rapidly accelerating (anything other than slowly easing to more throttle), I get knocking and pinging. It reminds me of what it sounds like when the motor gets bad gas. However, I've tried every brand and every octane. The only thing that keeps it from doing this is 93 octane which is ridiculous considering the cost and the fact that the truck was built to run on regular.

I have no idea what the deal is. 2010 with the 4.6 3V motor and Dynomax stainless exhaust. That's it for performance mods.

Dealer and manual say that occasional knocking is normal, but this is every time I give it gas at anything less than 2500 rpm. It's really pi$$ing me off!

I wonder if you are running a little lean because of the exhaust mod?

That's possible I suppose, but I would think that the computer would be able to adjust to something that minor of a change in A/F mixture. I've done the reset a few times with no luck.

The intake is stock.

Last thing I want is a hole in a piston. Recommendations?

Sure does sound like its running lean to me. Did you ask the service manager to check for any available software updates?

did that new exhaust eliminate a cat? or it is a much less restrictive muffler? sounds like your missing some back pressure causing what everyone else has said, running lean. Maybe someone else can chime in but maybe unplugging the battery allows the ecu to reset the fuel map for current conditions? From what i understand it also goes through a learning period like the tranny but due to altitude and such. Im not sure though so maybe someone who knows for sure can say.

Yes, I've reset the computer a few times with no luck.

It's a cat back exhaust, so it uses the stock cat.

Unfortunately for me, the service manager said that basically, there's nothing they can do because they don't support aftermarket modifications.

I don't remember noticing it until after I installed the exhaust. So, yes I suppose.

Call Ford customer service.

An exhaust in no way effects your warranty unless they can prove that is the reason for defect.

And I can tell you right now...No catback is going to cause you engine problems unless the pipe is 1" big....lol

Call them. Bitch and bicker...

IT WILL GET YOU SOMEWHERE.

Your motor shouldn't tick.... Unless whomever installed your catback was rough and broke a manifold bolt...
