Im looking to replace my factory muffler with a magnaflow 18" model and want to know whether a 2.5" in/out is better or a 3"

Thanks
Matt

The inlet looks to be 2.75" on my 5.0 and it is definitely a 3" outlet. I would go with a 3" inlet/outlet. An 18" Maggie will definitely be loud and most likely drone.

I am waiting for someone to cut their resonator off and just run the oem muffler.

Let us know what you decide on.

well I'm not looking for it to be too loud and i really dont want any drone... I figured with the straight through design of the magnaflow that it wouldnt drone so much. I'm not gonna run duals...just looking for a little sound without the drone under load.

A straight through design will drone out on the highway. If you don't want a drone, look for a larger bodied muffler with a little bit of chamber in it. A 24 Inch bodied muffler will help.

A 5x11x22" is the quietest/largest muffler made by Magnaflow. I had a 3" center inlet/outlet on my '07.5 4.6L 2V engine and it had a slight drone at 70 mph in OD. It sounded quiet at idle but was sweet music to my ears when I stepped on the go pedal.

The 5.0L should sound good with the 5x11x22" Maggie and oem resonator. It may be a little too much with the resonator removed. The oem muffler is a turbo design similar to a Gibson SFT muffler and the resonator is a straight flow design. You may get the sound your looking for by removing the factory resonator and leaving the muffler in place.

i guess a little drone wouldnt bother me that bad. I previously had a 2007 gmc sierra with the 5.3 and duals with a knockoff flowmaster and if you were pulling something the drone would be so bad at around 3k rpms you couldnt talk to anyone riding with you.
