EB Observation

Today I went down to my semi-local Ford dealer to look at the EB F150's. They have 3 or 4 and each has an odd visual feature that has turned me off on considering one.

Notice the front plate bracket resides in place of the normal black plastic cover. Apparently in states, like NH, where a front plate is required. Ford replaces the ok looking plastic cover with the front plate holder. I would guess they felt the EB needs the additional air flow for cooling or general engine breathing. When I first noticed it, it was on a Max Tow equipped truck. But this is the case on all of the 3 or 4 I looked at. Fugly to say the least.

Here's 2 window stickers and the dealers pricing for 2 EB trucks.

Who'd a thunk an intercooler needs airflow to work...

Just passing along what I thought others might want to know about before ordering up one.

Wouldn't you think Ford could have utilized the space behind the large grille for the intercooler and maintained an even appearance across the truck line. Oh well. I for one, wont be buying one for this reason.

You must have missed the dozens of threads that already went over the this. Of course you won't be buying one "for this reason." Makes perfect sense. You were really serious about buying one. I can tell.

You mean the space that is already being used by the radiator, A/C condenser, tranny cooler and P/S cooler? I'm pretty certain I don't want a bunch of hot air being dumped onto my A/C condenser, that can't help cool the truck off.

to say you wont buy one because the plate is offset to the side when this has been discussed NUMEROUS times on the eco equipped trucks is REDICULOUS. yup god forbid a truck now looks ugly because of the needed extra airflow capacity with the additional intercooler up front. take your money and go buy a chevy volt. no wait you probably wont like the fact the filler door for the fuel is now occupied by an electric socket.

Guess so.

Yes I wont be buying one for this reason. If Ford feels they have to move the plate to provide adequate air flow to the intercooler. How the heck would it perform when I put my 7.5' plow in front. So, yes, I wont buy one.

EPS won't allow a plow. So its not for you regardless.

Go for a 6.2L with its hydraulic PS. It'll still work then...

your plow doesn't block the hole like the plate not an issue.

Ford does not recognize plows for any 2011 F150 anymore. They have been banned. Also, you're not supposed to have on your 04-10 F-150 either unless you have the Heavy Duty Payload package and Snow Plow Prep package.

imo you shouldn't put a plow on any half ton there for 3/4 ton and up.plus ford with the strongest frame on a 1/2 ton doesn't recommend then i wouldn't want to put on on the other guys.

And how's that? I throw the plow on the front of my 07 and my outside air temp gauge goes up a good 40 plus degree's. The sensor is located in the center of the grille area. My external trans cooler resides in approximately the same spot and it has no air flow when plowing or driving.

Living where Winter lasts about 6 months, I'm not too concerned about my A/C performance. But hey, until today. I had not seen a EB powered vehicle. So, it's all new to me.
