Good Price for 09 FX4?

Hello all. . . potential new F150 owner here.

I'm currently working on buying an 09 FX4 (33,000 miles). The truck has the 3.73 rear end, Screw, 5.5' bed, leather, no nav, no moonroof. They started at about $29,900 for the truck. They have since moved to $28,000.

Does this seem fair to you F150 guys? I was asking around on another forum and the majority of the people there thought it was still a bit high. My thought is waiting it out and hoping to get them down to $26,000, but I don't think they'll go there. I've been talking to them about this truck for about 2.5 weeks. Their latest offer came after I walked out of the dealer and told them I am no longer interested in the truck. They called me today and moved from $28,500 to $28,000. . . Kind of BS in my opinion.

Thoughts?

That seems VERY high to me. For an 09 with 33,000 miles....I'd look elsewhere for that kind of price! Even 26 seems high....I'm trying to convert the US $ to Canadian $ in my head and those numbers just seem out of whack to me....

I would say its high too. You should be able to pick up a new 2010 for close to that. I paid 29,000 for my 2009 Fx4 ext cab in 09.

Private party book on it is 26. However, have you looked around to see what leftover new 10's are going for?

Edmunds price for dealer retail in "clean" condition is $28k, "outstanding" condition even more. I know around here you won't see them priced below 30k, eventhough I think you could score a new 2010 for 30-31k, depending on options. Comparable new 2011 would be around 35k.

I was looking at a leftover 2010 XLT Screw, 4x4, chrome package. . . the lowest I could get them to go was $33,000, which is more then I want to spend. Especially when one of the main options I want isn't even offered on the XLT (locking rear end, I go mudding a lot).

I've heard a few guys say they think it is overpriced, however, in my neck of the woods (Buffalo, NY) you'd be hard pressed to find a 2009 XLT with the same options as the FX4 I was looking at for under $26,000. Guess our market is high for F150s for some reason.

Same with my area, used F150's are damn expensive around here. OP, I actually thought that was a great deal.

I just got a trade-in quote on my 2009 (I check trade-in once every 6 months to help track my operating costs):

2009 FX4
5.4, trailer package, FX4 luxury package, leather, 3.73, nerf bars, new BF Goodrich TA/KO's, 73,000 miles, soft tonneau cover, no nav, no moonroof.

trade-in $19,750.

I laughed and walked out. There are 2008's with 60,000 miles on the lot with $28,900 on the windshield. Nice markup! Anyway, I don't see many loaded 2009's selling for under $29,000 currently in central Iowa.

I recently traded my 09 FX4 Luxury with moonroof, nav, leather, etc... with 28k miles on it, and the dealer is asking 33,900 for it, so I don't think that price sounds bad to me. But F150's are in high demand here in Iowa, so that helps the value.

Check cars.com you might be able to find something on there. They have listings for dealerships new and used.

I'm in British Columbia, Canada. I found my truck on the internet at a dealer about a 3 hour drive from my home. I checked on it from time to time and even drove over one Sunday when they were closed to look at it. It is a 2009 FX4 supercab, blue flame 2 tone, 20" wheels, moonroof, camera, tailgate & side steps, premium CD, TBC, cloth interior, Access Toneau with 3400 kms (2100 miles) at purchase. The original asking price was 34,777 which then dropped to 33,777, then after 3 months on the dealers lot with no sale they dropped it to 29,847. I wound up buying it for 29,400 plus taxes in Nov 2010. It was originally sold by the dealership in March 2010 to the first owner so I have factory warranty starting then. The truck is virtually brand new. I'm happy with what I paid. No regrets.

So I think my new plan of attack is to wait out the used truck as long as possible. If they eventually come down to $26,000 for the FX4 and $9,000 for my trade I will pull the trigger. But I am now pursuing going after a new 2011 EB FX4 Screw. This is the first offer I got from a local dealer I've been in contact with. Let me know what you guys think. . . It seems to make sense to me to spend $10k more (I plan on keeping the truck FOREVER) and get a brand new truck with 0 miles (or thereabout) that I will know exactly how it is maintained from the beginning rather then a 2 year old truck with 33k miles on it and no records of the maintenance on the vehicle. Anyways, check out the offer below. Thanks for the comments!

Here is a truck I think you would be interested in. You’re going to spend a lot of money on this truck spend the extra money on the eco boost engine no matter who you buy it from you’ll be glad you did.

$43980 MSRP
$41248 Gowanda Ford Selling Price
$1500 Rebates everyone gets
$1000 Ford Credit cash (you must finance through Ford Credit)
$1000 Trade In Assistance (you must trade in a 95 newer vehicle)

You may be eligible for other rebates but these are the rebates that most people get.

Get the VIN, then you can look up the original sticker for it. When I was looking for my new truck in April '10 I was potentially looking for used. However after researching the "deals" on the used trucks I found that I could be a new truck cheaper. You have to take into account the financing, any factory rebates on new, etc. Usually you can get about 20% off MSRP on a new truck, depending on what rebates are out there. Don't let the dealer fool you, if they want the sale they can get really close to 20% off.
