I'm not knocking you, but I always have to laugh when garages try to sell nitrogen filled tires. The selling points I have heard is nitrogen doesn't change pressure as much when driving, nitrogen doesn't leak out of the tire as easily as regular air, and nitrogen doesn't degrade the rubber in the tire as much as air. I really don't know what is true or not but if a little common sense is applied two of the selling points are nullified and the third becomes irrelevant.

What difference does it make whether the tire degrades from the inside or outside. The outside is still exposed to regular air and should still degrade. Since nitrogen doesn't leak out like regular air, then it only stands to reason that when the tire pressure goes down, it is the other elements in the air leaking out, leaving the nitrogen in the tire. After filling the tire several times you essentially have a nitrogen filled tire.

Nitrogen is a pure profit item for dealers.....if people pay for it. Remember, NASCAR uses nitrogen in their tires, so it must be good!

nitrogen is a inert gas, witch means it stay the same psi wheather its 10 degress out side or 80, i use it at work for leak checks because the pressure does not change with tempture.

Ummm no, an inert gas means it is not likely to chemically react with other things and damage them or burn. All gases will have a change in pressure when the temperature is changed, this is called the Ideal Gas Law read more about it here.

The nitrogen in car tires is just another way for dealerships to make money. There are benefits to it but to me it is not worth the cost in a car, an aircraft is a much different story.

Yeah, I wouldnt have paid for the Nitro...was amused at how the dealer was just SO " you got this for free" !

The vents are above the windows, kind of mixed on these. look good on Black truck, but I can tell they cause some excess wind noise.

Nitrogen is great in the aviation industry where re-treads are used. Moisture in the tires at 25,000 feet = ice on the inside. It warms up as the aircraft descends and so on, and so on. It keeps the tire pressure from dropping as quickly giving the aircraft Crew Chief a quicker pre and post flight which = a quick turn around, more sorties and less tire servicing. It also slows down tire degradation from the inside.

It does little if anything for automotive tires.
