2500 miles so far 18-20 hwy 65-80mph
pretty much 14-16 around town as it is hard to keep my foot out of it because as others have said the 5.0 is intoxicating.

 

We're close to the the same mileage, with nearly identical mpg's. Thing does sound good. I'm really surprised how close the mileage is on this 5.0, as compared to my previous 3.7L XLT SCREW.

 

Traded a 2006 F250 SD with the 6.0 for my 2012 F150 with the 5.0. I get the same mileage with the F150 as I did with the 6.0L diesel. Getting 16.5 mpg over the last 3600 miles of driving. I am "NOT" impressed by the mileage of this truck. The only benefit is that gas is cheaper than diesel.

 

A little update on the mileage. My 2011 has 27,345 miles on the ODO. I am driving roughly 48 miles round trip, 5 days a week. My avg speed is around 75 mph for 38 miles of the drive.

I am seeing 19.4 on the avg comp and receiving an actual 18.7 mpg. I am currently running Conoco 87 octane, up to 10% ethanol blend. I get around 18.9 on Shell 87 octane.

I have 2012 FX4 screw w/3.73's 20" wheels with 35x12.5. Only add on is k&n filter. Just put 5000 miles on it in less then 2 mos, all hwy. At 70 I get around 12.8, 60-68 I'm around 14. No a/c yet and plan on putting an exhaust system on soon.

 

I think you may have unrealistic expectations for fuel economy on a half ton......

Pretty much every half ton truck I know of, reguardless of brand, engine size, 2wd or 4wd all seemed to get somwhere between 14-18mpg depending on how its driven and the conditions it's driven in.

In my company I have 2- 3.7L 2wd 150s 5- 5.0L 2wd and my personal 6.2L 4x4. The 5.0L's do seem to lead the pack in mpg staying mostly in the 16-18 range all the time. The 3.7Ls are the real shockers at 14-15 most all the time, my 6.2L is 14-16 most all the time. We have GM 4.3Ls, 5.3Ls and 6.2Ls all three seem to stay right there in the 15-18 mpg range. I have owned Hemi Rams and V8 Dakota's V6 Dakota's, 4.0L V6 Toyota Tacoma's, then a few F250 Diesels 7.3L -6.0l's, still nothing I have ever owned really falls much out of the mid teens. Well one exception, I had a 2010 6.2L Raptor it seemed to stay around 11-13mpg.

 

eh.......until they come out with an F150 with a 3.0 liter diesel (which will be awesome), you'll never see a 1/2 that can haul a load realistically getting north of 20.

I have a VW TDI for when I feel the need for frugality at the pump. :-)

cc, I agree. I owned a 3.7L XLT SCEW for two years, and that's where it stayed. They are tough little engines, but I think Ford missed the mark putting them in the larger SCABs, and SCREW's for better mpg's. My '13 5.0L has done as good or better since new.

 

1700 miles on the clock and I am at 16.83 life of the truck. Just changed the factory oil out and she is beginning to break in and loosen up. Last two fill-ups averaged out to 17.52. With warm weather coming I am guessing I will be in the 18.5-19 mpg consistently. Pretty impressed with this power-train.

 

I'm at 1305 miles with an average of 14.7...... Kinda dissaponted, but it's a truck!

I agree they do have much better power then the V6s of years past and both of mine perform about like the 4.6L V8s I had. But I am not sure where or why they even offer it. The ones I have are in Regular cab 2wd trucks, I think they sucks a lot of fuel for a little V6 reguardless, no matter which cab configuaration they put it in.

 

Saturday I left for vacation. Athens GA to Nashville leg (305mi)I got 19.56 mpg and Nashville to Portage IN leg (459mi) I got 23.79 mpg. Speed was 70-75mph. When I return next Saturday I'll update with those numbers. These are calculated numbers. My truck now had 1856 miles on it. Also have a tonneau cover on. I have the 3.31 gears and a 4x2.
