I installed the Cobra that has everything built in the handset. I love it. It's easy to take out... Like disconnecting the mic from an old set. Unscrew the coil cord and put it in the console to hide it. I mounted the handset on the dash below the brake control. I'll be installing a remote speaker this spring. With the K40, I love it

I bought a Midland which can be converted to a hand-held by attaching the battery pack.
Plugs into the 12v power point. Works well enough and infinite channels (after some mods).
The whole unit fits into the palm of your hand and sees use when I'm on trips or hunting.
Antenna with a BIG magnet. Nothing is mounted to stay permanently.
Sits in the rear cupholders on my XLT's console when I use it.

I mounted my cobra radio yesterday when my son came over.I mounted it on the tranny hump just in front of the console.I won't be able to use the cup holder that slides out under the console, but thats ok! I have two more in the console.I also ran a 50amp circuit straight from the battery to under the dash for future accessories.Inverter, lights and misc. That way i don't have to keep drilling holes in the firewall to run wires to the battery.I have pics and will post them if someone can tell me how.
