Ecoboost Bumper

I've heard a lot of you guys concerned over the hole in the ecoboost bumper. Do you think a billet style grille covering the hole would significantly reduce air flow enough to cause any issues with the cooler?

I'm thinking of installing one on mine if it won't cause any problems. It seems like enough air would go through it and it would also protect it.

Unless it causes a problem of course.

I think you would be fine airflow wise. I would almost def do one if I had an ecoboost. Not only does it finish off the front end but provides protection for the intercooler.

My pipe dream is to replace the bumper cover with the Harley/Limited unit which (I believe) has a grill built in...

Thanks for the replies. There are a few aftermarket grills that will fit that spot. I might give it a try.

I'm just really talking about the space in the middle of the bumper that's on every f150, but is usually covered by the license plate. The ecoboost requires the plate to be offset and the space open for air to the lower cooler that's right behind the space. There have been concerns over the cooler being damaged if a rock or something kicks up into the space.

Here ya go-

Note how the license plate is off center to allow for more airflow to the intercooler. This look seems off to most people, including myself.

Thanks, guess I never paid attention with the plate over mine.

I highly doubt a billet grill would effect the IC. People run billet grills all day long in front of their radiators without any troubles. There's not much difference between an intercooler and a radiator, one has air inside, the other has water/coolant.

It doesn't bother me, to be honest. I'm going to be covering it up with a billet grille as soon as I find one I like, but that's just to keep large road debris out of there. A lot of the highways in Alaska were blasted right into the sides of mountains, so large rocks on the roadway are a constant issue. The last thing I need is a baseball sized bit of road rubble bouncing in and smashing my IC at highway speeds. I'll most likely leave the license plate where it is though, as the off-center look is fine, and unique as far as I'm concerned.
