EB FX4 ordered! ?ing Mods on the EB

So, I have my 2011 EcoBoost ordered. Ingot Silver SuperCrew Lux Package with 20's. I have all the mods planned out. 2" AS leveling kit and 285/60/20 Duratracs..among other things. Based on my past history with upsizing tires...I am not too worried about the 285's, especially if the EB puts out the power like people are saying. My 5.4 handled the heavy 35x12.5 Trail graps just fine with 3.73's. These will be 33.5x11.5 and much lighter (will still have 3.73 rear). I do not want a license plate up front, but I do intend on buying the filler grille..to help the appearance of the font end. I think it has been established that this filler grille allows enough air pass for the intercooler. This may be a dumb question..but it is something I want to learn about. The deflector/valance/whatever you want to call the thing...the plastic hanging down under the front end. I am guessing it is to catch air and direct it for cooling? I always hated that low hanging plastic under the SuperDutys, and now the F-150 has it. Maybe after I level, it won't be so bad, but I would love to remove it all together. I will probably get bashed, because I am sure that with the EB...this deflector/valance should NEVER be messed with. But I just wanted someone to inform me. Thanks.

It has nothing to do with cooling. It is there for aerodynamics only.

Haha, glad I am not the only one. And I am glad that, apparently, we can remove the dang thing without causing any kinda problems. It is strange to me that something hanging down is for aerodynamics. Seems like it would restrict air flow, not enhance it.?.? Guess with the level, the tires, and removing that thing..my mileage in my EB will be close to what my 5.4 was...oh well, we shall see in 6-8 weeks.

I agree is for aero reasons on the SD, but on the F150 it only appeared when they went with the e-fan in MY 2010. I think its for cooling on the F150.

You can order the EB with 4.10s, I'd recommend that if you want to run bigger tires.

Yea...it's too late for that. Like I said..I had 35/12.5s that weighed 81lb. ea. with 3.73's on my 5.4. It was fine! I saw the option for 4.10s but I don't feel like I need that. I will only be running 33.5s. I'm not worried!

It's to limit the amount of air rushing under the truck and creating drag. At least that's what they said when it was added to the SD and then lengthened when the 6.4 did so poorly on fuel mileage.

I removed the deflector thing and haven't had it for a couple months and haven't had a problem.

I recall they legthened it on Job 3 2008 SD's for MPG, (08s were out early in the year too) http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/new...n08change.html

and yet 09 F150s didn't have it. I still think it was related to the efan on the '10 + F150.

Ford didn't really discuss at the time: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/07...r-updates.html

Lots guys running bull bars etc are partially blocking the flow of air. It ifs not getting hot your fine.

Well, I finally got my truck last wednesday. On Thursday the 2" AutoSpring Leveling Kit was put on. On Friday my 275/65/20 DuraTracs where put on (yea...I decided to go a little taller than the 285/60/20) After riding around all day Saturday, and looking at my truck non stop...Today I decided that air dam hanging down under the front bumper HAD to go. I haven't run the truck without it yet...but hopefully I won't have any issues. I can tell you one thing though...I DEFINITELY like the look A LOT better now.
