transmission help

I have a 2010 f-150 that has a harsh downshift at low speed only. It only happens when slowing at a stop around 5/30mph 30 may be a little high and it is intermittent. I have 10000 miles and it has been at the shop 5 times. They can not seem to find it. It is a screw 4x4 5.4. Would any one know what this could be. They said they have reprogrammed the transmission twice and it still does it. They have yet to hear it. thanks

That seams to be a frequent problem with the 09/10's. But usually the tsb's/reflashes and time will cure it. At least your dealer didn't tell you what they told me when I brought my wife's escape in with the same problem. He actually said "its truck transmission, its going to have harder shifts then a car".

the 2011 6r80 has another clutch added to the tranny for smoother 1-2 and 2-1 shifts that the '09 and '10 trannies don't have. i think what you are experiencing it's just the nature of the beast...

i suggest you drive another '10 model with the same powertrain as yours to see if it does the same thing...i bet it will.

Ok everyone this is whats going on my dealer said its out of their hands. I do understand the hard shift but this one does not do it all the time. But also sometimes when you pull up to a stop and just set there the truck seems to move forward just a little. The first time I just thought I released the brake a little, but the next three time my foot was firmly on the brake. Anything I can tell the Field Engineer that will help this process would be nice.

Its not every 2010. I have heard its more of a problem with the 4.6 3v than the 5.4. My dads 2010 5.4 4x4 Lariat shifts great. After a re-learn on my 4.6, the shifting was fine for about 1 week but gradually the rough shifts and surging are back...but not as bad a before. Maybe it just certain driving styles that it learns the bad behavior from? I don't mash the gas pedal but I do try to keep it under 2k rpm and coast where I can. The shift issue is most noticeable in stop and go traffic or pressing the gas after coasting to almost a complete stop.

It's common with a lot of F150's. Mine had been i the shop 10 times for similar issues.

Hmmm, I just posted in another thread about the same issue. Mine is a 2009 with the 4.6 3V motor. Ugggh. At least I am not the only one.

The 2011 trucks are doing it also. A few 2011 threads about it. Different clutch made no difference obviously. There are TSBs but Ford says it's the adaptive learning causing the issues and it's normal. Mine does it occasionally, I'm waiting for another answer from Ford.
