The issue of Ford Paint

Surprised Ford let Edmonds post this picture but it is from their test vehicle leant to them 5.0 SCREW XLT which they gave a glowing review

I feel I have the most beautiful blue in the world---- 2011 Flame Blue, but admit my paint was not much better, my detail guy worked his *** off to make it look presentable

Ford needs to fix this as this is their achilles heel right now. The orange peel on my 40k truck is almost unacceptable

It gets worse than that, if you so much as look at it sideways it chips.

How is the White Tri-Coat that I would paying extra? Is it the same way? Is it a problem in general or with darker colors?

What was done to make it presentable? I've noticed that my paint looks like Sharkskin when I have my sunglasses on.

It's not just Ford. Look at any of the manufacturers paint and they all have orange peel. The only way you don't get orange peel is if you buy a Mercedes, BMW, or possibly Lexus, not sure if they do or not, but the higher end manufacturers like them. They actually color sand the paint on their high end cars. But you pay for it too.

You could always wet-sand with 1000 grit and then 2000 grit sandpaper to level out the paint and then use the professional agressive through fine polishing compounds on a buffer. It would be smooth and glossy, but it is very easy to sand through the paint and you would no longer have a paint warranty.

The paint on my Mercedes SL55 is like glass, on the Lexus RX350 the tri-color white is pretty good but there is a little orange peel. The Merc has been fully blocked from the factory where as the Lexus looks like a robot hit it.

On trucks I never pay attention to the orange peel but on my 2005 F150, its not bad at all.

I've noticed that the orange peel is mostly on the trucks, most of the cars I see are pretty smooth. Go figure!
