EcoBoost Mileage

Yes, let's definitely keep this an Ecoboost thread. With that in mind, comparisons will be made to other engines for sake of conversation.
I see what you mean. For me though, from the evidence I've seen; I'd be getting more like a 4 or 5 mpg improvement with the EB over my 5.4. Plus I'd get a new truck with all the other new features. The EB engine seems to perform better and I particularly love that new info center between the speedo and tach. That thing is awesome.
(lol, look at me, I'm trying to sell myself. haha)

For $750 over the 5.0, I'll take the increased torque and horsepower PLUS improved fuel mileage every time. Not sure who wouldn't, but obviously plenty don't. Maybe its a concern for the ecoboost being a "new" engine because other than having the V8 sound I can't think of any benefit for the 5.0. I would expect the 5.0 engine choice would die off unless the initial purchase price becomes a bigger factor.

My old '10 F150 with the 5.4, 3.55 gears, standard tow package, crew cab and 4x4 would struggle to hold speed pulling my 24' flatbed which weighed in under 4k lbs. It would drop down to 3rd gear and struggle to make it up most hills.
When I sold that trailer and got a 24' enclosed which weighed over 6k loaded, I knew I would kill the old truck on the 500 mile round trip I make at least once a month during the spring/summer/fall.
I swapped it for an ecoboost with 4.10 gears, with the max tow package. The new truck handles the heavier trailer better than the old one handled the flatbed...it hasn't dropped below 5th gear while loaded up with the trailer, and has power to spare when it comes to towing. I'm not very impressed with the mileage with the trailer hooked up so far, but I guess that is a price you pay while towing a brick with the gearing and tire combo I have.
I never did pull the enclosed with the 5.4, but I would be willing to bet that the mileage would have been similar to what the ecoboost gets...it just does it so much easier.

That makes more sense than most realize. I agree totally.
