EcoBoost vs 5.0L

I am on my second F150, a hail storm devoured the first one. On the second I seriously considered the EB but after driving several the consistency of acceleration was not impressive. I wound up in my second 5.0 and I am happy. I am not sure you can go wrong with either choice.

I drove 2 ecoboosts and 2 5.0's before I bought my F150 and ended up choosing the 5.0. The power on the 5.0 is impressive and I did not want to deal with twin turbo's in the future. My dad has a 5.0 and tow's his 10,000lb camper in idaho with no problem at all. We did quarter mile runs with both engines and they were nearly identical in the same setup truck. My 5.0 with the 5 star tune feels better than the ecoboost to me. Whats interesting is I went to the dealership to get the ecoboost and ended up with the 5.0. Also on the runs we did with both trucks the 5.0 got better mileage than the ecoboost. Just my opinion of course.

Just reposting a reply of mine from another thread in case people were still watching this one and not the other.....
Alright, did my first test drive this weekend between the EB and 5.0.
The EB felt "smoother" and a tad easier to get the truck moving to road speeds (40-50mph) not flooring it, just regualr acceleration. The 5.0L reminded me of a 2 stroke ATV. Meaning it did fine down low, but once it got over a certain RPM it really picked up ("on the pipe" so to speak). Nailing it from 20 mph to 70 the EB still felt "smooth", nothing violent, no crazy noise, but the speedometer told me it was 70mph. The 5.0 from the same test was quite different. It did the loud rev, and once it got over 3500rpm it got even louder and moved the truck out well. The shifts also felt different. The EB would feel like it slides into gear where as the 5.0 would do the typical drop off and pick back up.
I'm still replaying the test drives in my head figuring which one I truely like better. Maybe I was expecting for the EB to feel like a top fuel funny car and getting my hopes up. It's not a bad thing it felt so smooth, just not what I'm used to in a truck. I love the low end torque to no end. The 5.0 did what i expected and sounded good. It did seem like I had to give it a little more gas to get the truck going, but otherwise felt fine on the top end.
I am going to give them one more drive each before placing an order later this week. I'll keep ya posted.

I bought my truck as a keeper and hope it lives forever with minimal maintenance like most of the fords I've owned.
I wish you were local and I could check out the tune in person. I too firmly believe the car needs a tune, especially around how it handles the gear changes/selections. That alone would make a world of difference.
