Test Drive 2011 XLT 5.0

Guys I have a 2010 XLT with 5.4 and 6 speed and I was think about trading for a 2011 XLT SCREW with a 5.0 6 speed and I was not impressed with the power, My 5.4 seems to have a little more power on the bottom and the trans just was not as smooth as the 6 speed in the 5.4. A little update the 2010 I have has a 5.4 with 3.15 gears and the 5.0 in the 2011 has 3.55, it should be a little stronger. The 2011 with 5.0 act like it did not know what gear to be in jumping from gear to gear, where the 5.4 would just pull smooth through the gears. I do like the new 2011 trucks but it is something about going to a V6 for more pulling power it is hard to take lol lol lol. Maybe some of you guys with the new 5.0 can set me in the right direction.

You should drive the EcoBoost. I wasn't sold on it either, but after I drove it, I was a believer. I had a 2009 FX4 with the 5.4 and happy with the trade.

You're expecting too much of a difference between the 5.4 and the 5.0. The 5.0 does have a little more punch then the 5.4 when you jump on the go pedal. But when driving with a light foot, I have found that I miss my 5.4. And some will come in and say, well the 5.0 and 6 speed gives you much better mileage. Mine is better but the improvement is minimal.

For perspective my 07 and 11 are supercab 4x4's. Both with 3.73 gears.

Just as all of my previous F150's, the 11 regardless of motor, will get the job done. So find the truck you like and enjoy it.

I've heard this from a few people. I have to say that I do not have this issue with my 5.0L STX SCab.

I have also found that it is similar to my '05 Nissan Titan; the harder you drive it, the better it responds. If you drive like an elderly person on a sunday drive, it doesn't feel as responsive.

You may try an EB out. On a side note, I may be the only person on this site that test drove an EB and prefer's the 5.0L.

You are not the only one...I preferred the 5.0 over the Ecoboost as well.

Same. Not to mention my 5.0 seems to be really healthy. I have raced 2 ecos and beat them both and I have a friend with a 5.0 that says he got torn up by the Eco...so seems some 5.0s may be a little low on power?? Btw I broke mine in very hard. From day one tearing it up. Just made sure it was all at operating temperature and then tear it up!

I've tried em all, and they all have theire ups and downs...

I found the 5.0 to lag a bit on the bottom end, but once the revs are up, its awsome...

And I to preferred it over the eco.

Don't get me wrong, that eco is awsome, but..... Its just not a V-8.

If I was to trade my 2010 on something, it would be my identical truck with the 5.0

If I towed, I'd force it upon myself to get the Eco. It is definatly more suited for pulling.

The 5.4 felt stronger to me as well over the 5.0. The EB felt stonger than both but not a huge difference that I thought it would be. I would not trade for the engine only, not woth the loss you would take, IMO. They are all nice trucks and drive great. What we DO know is that your 5.4 will give you 200-300K miles with normal maintenance.

same here.

i do miss how the 5.4 felt torqey around 1500-2000 rpm but overall the 5.0 is a much better motor IMO so far

I'm resisting the urge to test drive either of the new motors. When Ford says the 5.4 makes torque at 1800, they are spot on. When dragging my 6000# trailer, it likes to get to 1800 and then hold it unless you hit a hill. I'm getting the feeling from posts that the 5.0 doesn't behave the same way?
