Tailgate stolen :( >>> Resolution

see last post for conclusion ---
------------------------------------
Tailgate stolen off my 2009 Platinum... Police said they got 6-7 around here.

No - it wasn't locked... it will be from now on (and I've seen the other tips - will get a tailgate lock)

Don't people have anything better to do?

Anyone know if the 2010/2011 tailgate is the same as the 2009?

Thanks --

Yes, it should be identical.

For cheap insurance, you can't beat either a thick Zip Tie or a stainless radiator clamp on the right side pivot.

I put the stainless steel radiator clamp on mine as soon as I bought it.

Also I try to remember to always lock it.

With tailgate theft off the charts, i am disapointed that ford has not build a Tailgate lock/unlock , that actuates with the fob. After market versions are available but should be build in from the factory. I almost never keep mine unlocked. I have the step as well. That would make it even more expensive to replace.
Guess it will take a lawsuit to get that done.

Are you suggesting suing Ford because people are to lazy to lock their tailgates with their key?

What i am saying is...i dont have to use my key to unlock the doors, so why not be able to lock/unlock the tailgate at the same time with the fob.
At 40 to 60k for a nice truck, it should be incorporated. It's a shame that especially on a high end truck, one has to use the key to lock it.
But then ford wouldnt sell all them replacment tailgates......
And yes...eventually somebody will hire a laywer.

Did someone force you to buy the truck? Does any other truck have a remote tailgate lock? You should start a class action-it's easy money...

Wow, the sue sue sue mentality of people is just ridiculous, WHAAAA I have to walk to the back of my truck and stick some stupid metal thingy in another stupid metal thingy and turn it. WHAAAAA it should do it all automatically for me, and if it doesn't then the company that makes it should pay me millions of dollars because I had to twist my wrist. WHAAAAA

If you don't like having to do it with the key that Ford provided then buy a aftermarket kit and stop bitching. They are on the market for people that think its to much of a hassle or just cool to do it remotely, either way their is a solution to the "problem".

What about the people that think that vehicles are getting too electronic and becoming to complicated, should they Sue ford because their airbags turn off automatically in the passenger seat when less than a certain amount of weight is in them?

i put one of those 2 ft long big black zip ties on mine around the hinge point on the passenger side. i did it to keep the tailgate from bouncing off. i have tried cutting it off in the past to remove the tailgate and its not to easy. would probably help with theft as someone might not want to hang around that long. another option might be a hose clamp. put the screw head on the bottom where its hard to get at

Aparently some people just cant wrap there head around the fact, that it would be of great use to have the lock/unlock feature build into the tailgate.

I did not say, that i am suing ford because of that lack of a remote lock.
What i said was.....somebody eventually will.....
