Any reason for MPG to go down after being rear ended???
I was hit pretty hard. Trashed the bumper, trailer tow package, the tailgate, and knocked the bed into the cab.
36 gallon tank & 19,600 miles on the truck. I always use mom & pop gas stations that sell 100% gas, no ethanol. I was consistantly getting about 265 miles out of half a tank (I usually fill up at half tank or 1/4 tank). I'm now just a hair past half tank with 196 miles on this tank. Did the collision set off a sensor...put the computer into some sort of "SAFE" mode"?!?! What the hell happened???
I ran a Vehicle Health Report and everything came back ok. Any ideas???

There's alot of unseen things that may have gotten damaged....start with the obvious and work towards the more complicated ones.....
Alignment
Rear axel and attached components, brakes
Fuel system evap system, hoses, lines
Big ol'can of worms.....
Could be some crappy gas also

if you got hit hard enough that it damaged the hitch and threw the bed into the cab, its very possible you have a bent frame. which would mean something is no longer aligned causing poorer milage
IMO id sell the truck and take the hit and get a new one. its not worth trying to find the tiny stuff

On my 2004 F150 I had two alternators go out on me within two days... (bad stock from NAPA I was told). After I had the BATTERY disconnected for changing out the alternator the motor just didnt idle right and I also got real bad gas mileage after that. I finally took it into Ford and they reset my on-board computer (cost $90 for two minute work) and that solved my bad idle and gas mileage problem. It went back to its good 18-21 MPG after that...
Maybe your fuel pump inside the fuel tank really got hammered in the wreck...

I think I'll try taking it to the dealer & see about getting the computer reset.
