So Far.....
Well, it's Friday July 8th and still no truck. So far, the Ford dealership stated that his transmission specialist looked over the transmission like it was his own truck and came to the conclusion that the front pump needed replaced along with the torque converter seal and assured me no other damage was done to the transmission. The part was supposed to arrive Tuesday July 5th and supposedly it didn't. The regional customer service rep stated that it arrived at the dealership Wednesday, which really jacked me because I assumed my brand new truck might have some priority since it has been back at the dealership since June 27th and broken down since the 23rd. After speaking with the dealership service manager today he stated that the part didn't arrive until this morning and my truck should be finished sometime next week. Then he proceeded to state that he didn't know if his transmission guy tore it down to visually inspect the transmission. It sounds like they punched the vin in and found that there was a recall for the front pump and no inspection was done on the transmission directly.
I doubt there will be and like someone stated, they'll fix the parts and send me on my way. (Oh, to that guy, you must not have any kids or you'd be a little more understanding of this situation.) I traded in a 2003 F150 Lariat that never let me down, minus a broken shift fork that was fixed by the dealer in 2006. At this point, I'd take that truck back in a minute if I could erase this deal. A failed part is one thing, but on a day old truck leaving me stranded at dark on the side of an interstate 3 hours away from my home with two little girls is in a different category. After reading all this other stuff going on with this wonderful new transmission, it reminds me of the Dodge problems back in the mid-90's.....great looking truck but terrible transmission. I thought Ford engineers had this all figured out.
I'm working on three weeks without my truck, by payment standards that $450 towards my monthly payment. I'm in a rental car from the dealership, a Ford Taurus which I have to say is a nice car, but it is not a truck. I have gone to a 4 day country music festival in Eastern Ohio every year since 1991 and pull a camper out on Sunday to the campgrounds. Looks like that isn't going to happen unless I can borrow an inlaws truck and take the Ford beating all week and weekend (I asked for a truck from the rental). I'll probably set up tents until my truck is fixed, then I'll have to worry about the damn thing the whole time I'm making my first pull with it. As you can see, I'm beyond jacked over this whole deal. I expected a new Ford transmission just for the pure PR of the issue. I was under the impression that the front pump was housed inside the torque converter and was one of three parts inside the torque converter; turbine, stator and pump. Is there another front pump on the transmission? Is it mounted outside the transmission case? The dealership service manager COULDN'T answer these questions! Is it possible to get detailed drawings of what they're changing out?
I've tried to talk to someone in Ford corporate, but apparently that's the regional service manager. So, there's no chance of a new transmission, and no guarantee of any extended warrranty. For peace of mind, I asked the dealership if I could go to the service garage and see the transmission getting inspected and fixed and that was shot down. My brother has torn apart engines and transmissions since I was 14 (I'm 37), that part never filtered to me from my grandfather but I was in his garage quite a bit. All I know is that the Transmission IS the Powertrain and my new Ford that I was planning on keeping for 6 or 7 years failed me. Yeah, just fix the currently failed parts and send me on my way.....I'd say that's fair.

front pump is the first thing inside the transmission case behind the convertor. If you stand a trans on its front end, you load everything in and out through the back of the trans (top side if its on its end) so the pump is the last thing out, first thing in.....
ask your sales manager for a used truck off the lot as a "rental" for your hauling needs.
