2010 4.6 2V drain back problems? 2-3 second ticking upon start...

Does anyone know if the 4.6 2V motor has some sort of an internal check valve besides the oil oil filter?

Lately my engine has been ticking on a cold start...But imediatly goes away upon full oil pressure...ticks about 2-3 seconds...

I use nothing but Motorcraft oil and filters...

Its very random...and doesn't necessarily need to be cold..

Is this going to screw my engine..?

I thook it in under warranty but it would make the sound of course, and the ford dealers are ****weeds around here...Well the service dept's are..

Any help would be appreciated..

Did this just start to happen since your last oil change?

If it is I just try a new oil filter......see if it still happens

My 2v was doing the same last winter, it would sound like a diesel until it fully warmed up. I know my buddy's 3v did the same thing so I chalked it up to being normal.

Pretty common with these OHC motors. The 5.4 3valve in my truck does this and the 4.6 2valve in my mustang. I think it's the lash adjusters needing to be primed back up with oil upon startup. I have a mechanical oil pressure guage in my car and the oil pressure jumps right up to normal when it starts. No matter if it starts normally or has the startup rattle.

I have experimented with almost every brand of filter I can buy to no luck. I just use motorcraft oil and filters now. I will say this but won't recommend any doing this though. A friend of mine has an 05 F150 with the 4.6 and he went from running 5w-20 to 10w-40 and his start up rattle has completely went away. The truck still runs great but i'm not gonna push my luck.

My '02 Mustang GT with 89,000 miles had the tick in the winter. The ticking started at around 75,000 miles. The fix was to continue with the MC 5W20 Syn Blend oil and MC FL-820S filter. I added one bottle of Lucas Oil Supplement and then topped off with MC oil at every oil change.

My '07.5 STX didn't have the issue when I traded at 45,000 miles.

Have any pics of the mustang? I have an 03 GT with some decent mods plus nitrous.
