Towing with ecoboost????
Anyone do any towing with their EB??? If so what do you tow and what kind of roads are you on, mostly level ground or hills and mountains??? Would like to hear any opinions. I am in the market to trade my 2008 FX4 s-cab and looking to get the EB. I pull a 27ft camper weighing in at 6500lbs but buying one next spring weighing in around 7800lbs, so i will be pulling 7800lbs.

OLD SKOOLMC- My question was if anyone has seen any issues when towing, any power loss at all. My truck will have the following things- 2" Leveling Kit, 1"AAL on the rear, 305/65/18 BFG All Terrain 10ply tires. That is all the equipment that my 5.4 FX4 has now. So I am curious as to see if the tires dog it down any or not. Either way I need the ground clearance where I live. So hopefully the EB still has the power after those mods.

I tow a 25' travel trailer about 7000 fully loaded, The truck tows beautifully. I've had the 5.4 in my 04 and 08 and there is no comparison, not just the motor but the 6 speed select shift transmission works very well in the tow/haul mode. No gear hunting whatsoever...The entire truck is awesome.....

The EB will be on boost a lot more with those tires than ultra light OEM tires. It will out pull any other half ton truck, just don't expect the EPA fuel economy ratings with those tires.
I'll assume you mean the TT you want is 7800 pounds dry, which will be more like 9000 pounds loaded for a camping trip. That means up to pounds of tongue weight. I highly recommend the max trailer towing package with higher GVWR and payload for anyone towing an RV.
I test pulled my TT which was about 6000 pounds at the time. The power was amazing. It pulls hard over 2000rpm, and select shift allows one to limit gears. 5th gear, 65mph, 2100rpm I believe, which was perfect.

APT- you are correct, the loaded weight, tanks full will be around 9,000lbs. However i always go to a campground that has at least water/electric hook ups, so i never have the tanks full while pulling. The 9,000lbs will be the worst case scenario, thats the specs on a 34ft- hitch to bumper. I am possibly getting a smaller one with only 1 slide out instead of 2, so that will shave of weight as well. I agree the max trailer tow pkg would be the best way to go. Just finding one with that package, thats the hard part around here. None of the dealers, including the one I work at like the tow mirrors, they think the mirrors look stupid. I am not so much worried about fuel economy as I am power. My 5.4L only gets 12 mpg around town and maybe 17.5 mpg on a trip and thats empty. So the EB would have to do better.

Yep, out pull Ford and GM's 6.2L engines.
I struggled to find exactly what I wanted through the whole country. Ended up with nothing, even calling Ford's marketing number to find it. You can still order 2011 models, and get decent end of model rebates in September when it comes in. I'm unfortunately moving out of a pickup into an SUV. I wish Ford offered the EB in the Expy with a similar towing/payload package.

I would not bet the bank on this. Too many variables to simpy state the eco-boost is the best towing engine period. Anyone that has any experinece with dynos know you do not race or work them. I have seen too many engines make great flywheel or rear wheel numbers on a dyno and in real world conditions do not run for ****. Too many variables. Eco boost is a good motor, is it better than the 6.2 for towing, I do not know. Why is it not in the F-250 if it gets better mileage and has more power?

However the 6.2 in the F-250 is different than the one in the F-150. The F-150 version is "detuned." My dad has the 6.2 in his 2011 SD, its a beast, and im sure puts out more HP and TQ than the EB. Havent driven the EB yet, but will on monday!
