Interesting, have them check t-stat and HG. This is a boosted engine so running full boost up the grade will strain the Head Gaskets pretty good. Keep us updated.

How were the tranny temps?
Yeah, his best option would be to just trade it in for a 5.4L powerhouse. (note the sarcasm)

I would say its probably a T-Stat. I have purchased new ones in the past that didn't open all the way.
I had the 97 model F-150 with the 5.4 it was a turd.

Regardless of engine, Ford trucks seldom overheat unless mods have overpowered the cooling package. Chevy trucks seldom overheat. Dodge trucks seldom overheat. Toyota trucks seldom overheat. Its not something that happens much anymore.

Here's my checklist:

1. Radiator coolant level, and is there an air bubble trapped in cooling system?
2. Fins plugged?
3. Fins blown flat by pressure washer?
4. If no to all of the above, dealer trip is in order

Even though I have a 5.4L 09 that tows GREAT, it shouldn't hold a hill as well as the EB, when equipped with like gearing, tires, and trailer.

toyota makes trucks?

I don't have an EB but I heard that they have a 5000 mile break-in period before you should tow. How many miles are on your new EB?

1000 according to the owners manuals.

I love it, someone reports a problem with an EB, and right away there's V8 diehards bashing it.

I read this thread in the nick of time!

I spent the better part of today at 2 different dealers and finally got a price worked out that I will finalize and officially order tomorrow morning. That truck has the problematic and dreaded EcoBoost in it! What was I thinking!

After reading this I immediately called the dealer and asked to change my order from the EcoBoost. The guy asked, you want the 5.0 or the 6.2? I said neither..he then asked, the 3.7L?

Nope! I want the 5.4L 3V!

Um, they quit making them for the F-150 sir.

Why? I thought it was a proven motor and "the best!"

My 5.4 3v had towed anything so far that I put behind it & has never overheated or given me an ounce of trouble! To me, yes it's the best by far!....
