Sony stereo

I'm going to the dealer next week to place a factory order for 2011 FX4 w/ luxury package.
I'm contemplating the Sony stereo (non-nav) option. I've read posts regarding the improved sound quality, so I'm fairly certain I'll get the option. One thing I'm not sure about is the space the sub takes up below the rear seat. I'm ordering a supercab, and the dealer didnt have any trucks (supercab or supercrew) with the Sony system.
Could someone please post a pic of the subwoofer in their supercab if possible? In one of the posts I read someone said that the sub can be easily removed for the times where the extra space is needed; can someone comment on this?

Thanks guys, looking forward to the new truck!

the system is under the passenger rear seat on the supercab. takes up the whole space under that single seat. one thing i don't like is thats under there and then on the driver side under the rear seat is your jack so not much space to store things.

compared to the audiophile on the 04-08's, the sony system leaves a lot to be desired.

Here's the thing -- if you're an audiophile in the least, then the stock stereo isn't even remotely acceptable. So, even if the Sony system isn't perfect, it's your only option (unless you plan on going aftermarket). The base model system is absolute garbage. Fortunately for me, I wanted navigation and the Sony system is integrated into that package. And as an audiophile, the Sony stereo may not be my Bose Aviation A20 headset, but the sound quality is excellent. Now if you're one of those people that cares more about how much your truck vibrates than actual clarity, then sure -- it may not be up to par.

If you can still order a 2011, your options are limited, 6-disc is in short supply, and other option is a single disk. I upgraded to the Sony to get off the material hold from lack of regular 6-disk radios

The sub on the Sony (non-nav) upgrade fits under the "40" on the 40/60 split rear seat. It isn't large at all.

I've got it in my '11 SCrew FX4 and like it. 1-2 years from now I will probably replace all the speakers and the sub/subbox but for now it gives enough low end to satisfy me for the classical rock, country, jazz and such that I normally listen to. It was worth it for me because I knew I wouldn't be putting money into the sound system for a while.

I also have the Sony w/ nav and find the system to be decent. I wont be replacing anything until something starts to go bad.

Thanks for the responses guys. I plan on keeping the stereo stock for a while and for the extra money seems like a worth while upgrade.

For the guys that do have the system, can the sub be easily removed

Yea you just fold up the seat, undo a couple bolts, unplug the harness and you are done.

I have a question.

Was going over my build sheet again and noticed something. I did not spec. the Sony system as part of my build, at least I do not recall doing so.

In my build sheet from the dealer it has listed "premium 6-CD w/MP3" in with the FX4 luxury pkg. items.

I went to Fords website and see the only 6 disc they offer is with the Sony system. Am I missing something here? Same player, just without the speakers?

Can not find subwoofer

I have a 2011 Lariat super crew with the Sony 6 disc audio system that came with the luxury package. I thought the sub was supposed to be under the foldup rear seat, but I cannot find it. Had it in my 2004 and was great. Just felt since it was part of the package they left the sub out. If so I want to install one. Can anyone confirm a sub under the rear seat in super crew. Thanks

There is the base 6 CD system, the Sony 6 CD System, and the Nav/Sony system that comes with a single CD/DVD player. The luxury package comes with the base 6 CD system. If you wanted the Sony CD system (10 speakers etc.), that is a separate option.

Thanks for the clarification. Where is the sub in the Sony CD 10 speaker located and can it be added to my Sony 6 disc CD system?

The Sony system sub is located under the rear passenger seat. If you don't have the sub and have the 10 speaker Sony system, I would be going back to the dealership. Yes, replacing the missing sub should be straight forward.

edited: Adding there is also a base single CD system. In some literature the "base 6-CD" is noted as the premium system.

Thanks for the photo. Is this just the sub or do you think it also is the power amp? If it includes the amp do you think I can add it to my 6 disc NON-Sony system?
