5.0L mpg
#31
On a recent 1560 mile trip, from Bowie MD through PA and OH to Dearborn MI (Rouge plant and Henry Ford Museum) and return through Canada, NY, & PA and back home, my 2011 5.0l 4wd SC/SB w/ 3.73's and Hankook tires used 78.8 gallons of fuel, for an average of 20.1 mpg. Speeds were at limit + 10% except in the cities. I came out of a 1998 4.6l 4wd SC/SB w/ 3.55's that never averaged more than 17 mpg on the highway (and much worse in town) from the day I bought it new.
This new drivetrain (and the entire vehicle, save for the thin sheet metal) is a quantum leap forward in technology. I held off buying a new 09 or 10 because the 5.0 was coming in 11 and I am glad I did.

No, not a lot of hills. It's pretty flat here, but I do push the speed limit a little. Usually about 8 to 10 over the limit. Maybe thats why I'm not getting 20 mpg. But it is on cruise most of the time. Even my daily drive (60 miles one way to work) is mostly highway. Don't really care, love the truck. It's still better than what I was getting out of the 5.4 I traded. It was 13 mpg.

Met a guy last Friday night with a 2011 SuperCrew 4x4 with the 5.0. I asked him his MPGs and his said he was averaging 22, with mostly highway driving. He said he generally runs 70-75 MPH (speed limit here in MS is 70).
I was mildly surprised, to say the least. My '08 with the 4.6 2v barely gives me 17-18, on a good day.

I have 1150 miles on her now and have used about 3/4 of this tank, averaging 19.2 at this point. I still can't get over how the East Texas hills and idleing in town takes away from the mileage. Sitting at red lights etc, just kills the mileage.
The hills take a bigger toll than running 70 to 75. The rpms at 65 are right at 1800 and the rpms at 72 are 2000.

The vast majority of my driving is local, Florida flat and I have yet to break the 17MPG mark around town. I did average (hand calculated) just over 18MPH with an avg speed of 77MPH on a 1000 mile round tripup I-95, again up the coast so hills weren't a factor. All in all, the truck is everything I wanted it to be in the most important areas, if MPGs was one of those areas I would've bought a Prius.......

I'm still averaging a little over 17 mpg on my daily commute. Flat road's and speed limit's only 55 and some 65 mph. Have about 20 miles with traffic light's so I do get a lot of stop and go driving mixed in. About 1- 1/2 more mpg then my '04 with a 5.4 got. 10k miles on my truck so far in 6 month's just commuting to work. No road trip's yet.

Just an update. I now have 19,700 on the truck and the mileage has stayed pretty well the same as when I first posted. I have never reset the Fuel Economy register and the truck has averaged 19.4 over the 19,700 miles. I did a test a couple of weeks ago, and stop and go driving in downtown Fort Worth, even going through some "stop and wait" construction, I averaged 17.5 for 63 miles. My absolute best so far is a trip down Interstate 45, cruise set at 68, perfect weather, 22.7. I use two tanks per week, and for a tank, I average anywhere from 19.1 to 20.5, depending on weather and how much in town driving there was. I don't rabbit start, but no sluggard either. I like to get up and go, so I am not really driving for mileage, and I will get up to 80 or so when passing on the highway. I do love to occasionally stomp it to hear that exhaust roar( I used to do a lot of drag racing).
The truck is completely stock, with 3.55s and has never had anything but Texaco, Chevron, Shell or QT in it, all 87 octane.
BTW, I keep a meticulous spreadsheet of every purchase, and the computer mileage is always dead on with the actual math. That is, except where I had to tell one station that thier pump I was using was off by over a gallon in 22 gallons. They got it recalibrated. LOL

great mileage
I think my trucks average is around 14 at 13500 miles, but to be fair when i'm on the interstate i'm usually doing at least 80, my commute is 3 miles so truck never warms up, and when i am driving longer trips at the posted or slightly below posted speed limit i have over 6k lbs hooked up. I think i've towed around 2100 miles with that weight according to the computer.

A guy at work bought a Platinum EB. He loves the truck, but is disappointed at the mileage. The best he has gotten is 17+, pretty much the same as his 2006 Tundra he traded in.
