5.0L mpg

I bought my 2011 used with 48,000(?) miles on it or so. After my first fill-up I reset one of the trip odometers and have left that alone. I have about 2500 miles on that with an average of 18.7mpg. Including one tank of E-85 (just to see if cost per mile was worth it).
I have also been resetting the other trip odometer every time i fill up, and tracking my fuel usage through a smartphone app as well as calculating usage. I have one initial fill up then 6 more logged in the app (none with E85) for a total mileage driven of 2105 miles. Best fuel economy of 19.56, worst 17.43, average 18.39. Average costs per mile $0.21 (important to me since I get paid mileage).
Now the interesting thing to me is that every time I fill up the trucks computer shows that I made better mileage that I actually did. For example, my last fill-up was yesterday, I drove 302 miles and the truck said I got 20.4mpg. However I filled up and it took 15.53 gallons for an average of 19.45. This was the worst its been off, but its usually about 0.5mpg over what I really get.
Overall I am extremely happy with a 18.4mpg average. I do mostly (heavy traffic) highway miles and gravel roads with a little city mixed in.

My computer is usually very very close to actual. Once, it was off by about 1 1/2 gal, so I told the station they needed to have the pump recalibrated. They did.
Mine has averaged 19.5 over 40,000 miles but a couple of weeks ago, I bought new tires and have dropped 1 1/2 to 2 mpg. Either the softer compound puts up more resistance or these are a little taller and the mileage is off. Trying to determine that now. I drive about 25,000 to 30,000 miles a year, so that will make a difference.

BennyHanna, your mix of driving styles is what's helping your mileage no doubt. Highway is the best way to max your mileage. I can easily get 21+ mpg on the highway (+/- 55mph). When I mix in 50% city, my average drops to ~17mpg. BTW, your cost per mile shows gas at $3.86. I'm envious.
Bluejay, your GPS will be your best friend in checking the accuracy of your odo. Most have a log feature that will give you 100% accurate readings for both distance driven and speed. If it is out, then any tuner should allow you to re-calibrate. I know that my Edge CS offers it.

I can get my truck to say 21-22 mpg pretty easy going 60ish but usually by the time I get fuel its back down to somewhere around 20. I've noticed driving on gravel drops my economy down pretty quickly. It must be due to a much higher rolling resistance.

I use the fuelly website to track my 2012 Ecoboost.

My South Dakota towing trip really drug down my overall average, but you can see my recent 5-10 tanks were running 18.5-19. I drove home in the headwind yesterday, which dropped my most recent tank to 15.8. That shows the power of wind on these trucks.
My average speed since my last oil change is 59.1mph, which shows that 95% of my driving is interstate.

I am routinely getting 23+ mpg out on the highway, without even trying for economy, and usually see 18.5-19.0 around town, on this 2012 XLT 5.0...cumulative mileage right now is sitting at 20.3 mpg at the last fill-up, with ~4500 miles on the truck, since new back on 01 June 2012...no complaints here on the 5.0 mileage or performance, and I don't know how much improvement (if any) I would be seeing in the egoboost engine with day-to-day driving, had I opted for that +$1500 option...

It's an iPhone. I checked it the old fashioned way on the highway tonight. Timed it for 5 miles at 60 mph and the odemeter is dead on. Has to be the soft compound of the tire plus they look like they have more surface on the ground. Hard to accept that cost almost 2 mpg. Makes for some expensive tires.

That's freaking awesome! I am at 19.203 hand calc'd life of my EB. Filled up yesterday and it was 20.45 mpg. I am really thinking about going back to one of the V-8's in my next one......
