They got the 5.0 from Maryland and had made a few trips back and forth plus its 800 miles a day. The tranny took a week to replace and the engine took 2 weeks. So with it being out of service for three weeks they lost about 17,000 miles on it. So it should have 143k on it if it wasnt for the problems..

So is the new one burning oil as well?? As far as the transmission it's the same in the Eco.

I'm not sure what all the differences are between the F150 5.0 and the Mustang 5.0 but over on the Mustang forums guys are adding oil seperator/catch cans to the engine PVC line and catching a fair amount of oil in them. I am going to be ordering one for our 5.0 Mustang.

This doesn't explain the entire quart every 4k that this test truck uses but these 5.0 motors may just be prone to using oil.

It's still Burning oil....They have alot of newer vehicles that burn oil, maybe cause they dont break them in the way you should... As soon as they get one it goes straight to the shop, they put on a grill guard and the weights and its on the road and they dont drive em easy.

I know the tranny is the same...they mostly deal with fords all the time and he said this was the first tranny to give them problems in a few years. They usually get 250-300k on a tranny. Probaly just bad luck that the 5.0 tranny went out.

They have several 09 f150's with 250k on them and the trannys are still doing fine.

Never bought one in my life on any product and have never regretted it. Can't start now. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's a good one. My 5.4 certainly was/is.

Yeah I can understand.. I didn't when I bought my 04 either and had nothing serious go wrong, course it's only got little over 20k though. I gotta start using the darn thing.

Only time I ever got an extended warranty was when I bought my Harley, there are no cheap repairs.

Goodluck with it.

I have 134,000 on my 05 and replaced 2 front rotors and 2 window regulators. Only one rotor and one regulator prior to 100,000 miles. I don't know if any of that would have been covered.

People must love to drive. Do they go anywhere, or just keep runnin' loops?

Come on, folks - a quart in 4k is nothing. None of the manufacturers consider it excessive till it gets to be more than a quart in 1k. Some engines use more oil than others.
