Did I make a mistake buying 3.55 gears?

What kind of bass boat weighs that much? Most bass boats I've seen are 18'-20' long and run 150-225 HP outboard. Even on a tandem axle trailer, I struggle with one weighing more than about 2,500 pounds. You should be able to tow that like there's nothing even behind you.

3000lbs. That is with 150 Opti I have a 175 ProXS that weighs more not including all the gear that is in boat when going fishing.

3:73 gears
I had it figured out with my 2004 F150... It was a matter of gas mileage for me and towing more second.
I saw the other 3:55 guys got real good gas mileage but at the expense of power. I wanted to get both... The big trailer guys always used the 4:10 gears which resulted in less then 10MPG... So back then I got the 3:73 gears on my 2004 F150 and it had pretty good power and gas mileage as well.
When I traded trucks last year I made sure it had the 5.4 engine with the 3:73 gears... I am getting 18-21MPG pulling my 4200lb OFF ROAD POPPUP. Strange enough I get just about the same gas mileage without pulling the popup haha... I get my best gas mileage using Shell gasoline for some reason...
