EcoBoost Overheating.

EcoBoost Overheating.
I had a problem with my first long tow. This truck tows like a diesel. It does not need to rev. I am in az the temp was about 98 degrees and I was pulling a long 6% grade in tow haul mode. My RV is 6200lbs empty. I had it weighed. Loaded it is less than 8,000 lbs. I was not paying to much attention to the guages as the truck was not working hard to pull the load. But about 3/4 of the way up the hill the truck gave me a warning saying it was reducing power to reduce engine heat. It cooled down and on the next hill I watched the temp guage. When I got to about 1/2 to 2/3 throttle the temp guage started moving up FAST very FAST. I was amazed. I backed of a little bit on the throttle and the temp started to come down slowly. Again the motor did not seem to be working hard. RPM's running 2200-3500. I believe the turbos are putting a lot of heat in the motor. I wonder if the cac needs to be bigger or a fan put on it. Ford says they are unaware of any heating issues. The dealer contacted their Ford enginering advisor. He has no knowlage of this issue. Anyone else experincing this?
Thanks

After watching the Ford challenge vids I wonder what the outside temp was. These were races up the hill against the Chev and Dodge. I would assume full throttle. I never needed to go to full throttle as the motor was not laboring in any way to keep the speed. In fact I was very impressed with the power. It was similar to my past diesel trucks. My milage round trip was 8.3 which for a gaser on a mountain trip was outstanding to me.

Do you have Max Tow? Bring it in and have them document it and have them contact Ford again. If you don't they will probably forget about it and not fix what they need to fix if anything. I have read this almost same exact story somewhere else. Do you post on other forums? If not someone else has the same issue.

The post I was thinking of is the one BlueJay linked to. Sorry, I haven't heard of this happening anywhere else. Bring it in and have them discuss the matter with Ford engineering. If everyone who experiences this contacts Ford they will be able to see if it is a reoccurring problem, and be better able to address your issue and fix it before the 2012's comes out, if there is a problem.
edit:
here is another one with similar issue from that thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/2009-2011-f-150-105/
That's makes three: you, the OP, and this other guy. If they tell you they never heard of this before show them these posts.
More: "3) I called my dealer the minute it happened for advice. (best I could do in the middle of nowhere) Also spoke to a Ford engineer in Oshkosh, WI." https://www.f150online.com/forums/4647195-post75.html

Take it to the dealer and have it checked out.. Something isn't right in your cooling system. Being in AZ myself chances are I've towed the exact same grade/road you are taking about.
Earlier this summer I towed a 6800Lb load up a 6% grade with outside temps at 108-112F that day. Truck performed flawlessly. 2011 Ecoboost Screw FX2 3.55, I also was running premium. I don't baby it either - we were flying up that grade: Cruise control set at 70mph!
Of course my load was a bit lighter than your, and also it was a low profile (car hauler) so not as much wind resistance as the front profile of a RV
Let us know what Ford says

How many miles on your EB? The engine is still pretty tight on a new truck and may need a bit of time to get broken in before towing heavy loads up inclines. Does the owners manual or any other information say anything about how many miles an EB should have on it before towing? I know fuel mileage generally will improve after a few miles on a new engine. I would guess the same would apply to towing.
