The 2011 FX4 5-liter V8 -OR- 3.5-liter V6 Ecoboost

I chose the 5L because it is a straight forward engine for maint and repairs. I have been very happy with power, fuel economy and sound. After having issues with my last two turbo diesel PSD's and Supercharged F150 Lightning. I was concerned with the long term cost and maint of the Eco out of warranty. The 5L was the safe bet for me and I am very happy. 20mpg highway 17 city and more power than the tires will hold.

I drove both before I bought. I drove 2 different eco's and they felt totally different. One had lag the other was snappy. I think they had different rear ends is all I can figure. Anyhoo, I ended up getting an FX4 5.0 due to the dealer blowing it out. It was too good a deal. It cost me about 2 grand more than an xlt eco, but I got the navi, moonroof nice wheels, and all the other trimming that come with the fx4.
That being said, I would love to have an eco fx4. The 5.0 is great, but I recognize the potential in the eco and kinda wish I had one.

Since then, I've been driving it on weekends only, with the exception of a recent trip down to Charlotte for a week earlier this month, and a quick run out to Albuquerque in July to help a friend move. Coming back to Ohio from the high desert, loaded, I had no trouble with power and managed just under 18 mpg. Running down to Charlotte at a leisurely pace afforded me 20 mpg easily. I'm certain I made the right choice.

I read everything, test drove everything, watched everything, and ultimately went with the ECO... I have never looked back. I love this truck! love the sound, love the look, it is awesome.
I do have to say, however, I do not get all that great MPG. 17-18 at best on FWY and 12-13 around town. It is a truck so if I get 14 I am Ok with it. I sure wish I could see the upper end of the spectrum on FWY's though.

I drove both.Purchased the 5.0/ 3.73.
I am old and found the 5.0 had a more fluid approach to the torque curve.
The Eco felt more like the kick in the pants of the olden day Cobra Jet.
Great for the racing crowd
Would have purchased a 3.7 ,if I could have gotten the options and the 3.7 to match my needs

The only extra maintenance costs I forsee are the turbos, intercooler and the piping for the system but im sure ford built them as maintenance free items that will only need to be touched when something fails. Im sure a few people will experience premature turbo failure but I wouldn't be scared to say these items will last well over a hundred thousand miles before ever being touched. Look at the diesels, I know people still running the stock turboes with over three hundred thousand miles on them.
