Better mileage and more power than most v8's are great reasons to buy one.

Have to agree that the mileage performance hasn't really matched the hype (before my mods which definitely affected my mileage), but others are reporting pretty good results. I really don't have any turbo lag issue and love the power surge it gives out so all in all still glad I bought one.

u should read around and talk to other people and see other results cause people are getting ****ty mileage out of the ecoboost!!! and are getting them worked on quite regularly !i haven't seen one that is getting better mileage than my 5.0

they are nice I'm just sick of people saying its the best thing in the world thats all ! they are about the same milage as v8s and performance isn't significant enough for me to give up a trusty v8 and the sound of a v8!

Well I had the same truck and gears in a 5.4L V8, and all I can say is that my ecoboost gets much better mileage in my local yokal driving than the 5.4L ever did, and it does it with a lot more power and torque. That's my yardstick for comparison, not the EPA rating on the window sticker. The 5.0 was a replacement for the 4.6L V8 and it is also much improved. Besides, I couldn't get the max tow package unless I got either an ecoboost or 6.2L, and I didn't want the 6.2. I'm just as happy with my 3.5L as you seem to be with your 5.0. Both good choices, depends on what you want/need.

One of the biggest reasons I bought the Eco was that with the 5.0 I would be too tempted to mod it. This way it limits me...
Supercharger mod too easy and tempting...

Good post. Glad you set us straight. Maybe one will turn out good in the thousands sold.

I hear you. Personally, I think the performance difference is quite noticeable between the two (drove both extensively before purchasing) so the Eco was more what I wanted. But I was biased because I was originally getting a Raptor with the 6.2L and the Eco is much closer to meeting that expectation. But the 5.0 is definitely a great engine and any performance deficiencies can be overcome with mods if someone really wanted too. I went out this past weekend with my best friend to test drive the new Mustangs with the 5.0L engines, and all I can say was "wow"! Scary fast!

The whole mileage thing has some subjectivity built in as well. For one, of course Ford is playng up their new techno wonder, and lots of folks want to jump on the bandwagon or maybe just plain try it out (like me). I bought the new 6.4L Powerstroke when it first came out and all the hype surrounding that when in the end it was a problematic endeavor. I actually enjoyed it while I had it but had no intent of keeping it over the long haul and dealing with any of those potential issues, but who knows how the Eco will play out after some more tweaking (again, first year for the F150). I haven't heard of that many Ecos being worked on, or at least no more that some owners of 5.0s that also have had issues, but so far mine has performed very well (knock on wood).

Thank you for that most excellent post! Now we all know that rationality, critical thinking and using the scientific method are not your strong suits. We will keep this in mind reading anything you have to say from now on.

So tell us, OP, since you are the expert on the subject, how long have you had your EcoBoost for?
